Our dining room table is in the kitchen so I am still able to talk to her, but she is the pokiest darn eater so I am not going to sit for an hour while she slowwwwwwly nibbles her dinner. He takes foreeeeeever to eat, so I start itching to get something done after awhile. He doesn't mind, and it gives him time to "explore" food on his own. Although sometimes the baby is freaking out and I need to get her ready for bed so I discuss/ask DD1 if it's okay. Most of the time she says yes and will patiently eat her food but if she says no, I say, okay, then I'm going to get DD2 ready right here and do it at the dinner table. My husband and I always eat after the kids go to bed because he gets home from work right at bed time. And even if he's out of town, it's too much for me to try to eat while taking care of both kids solo (because the baby doesn't eat alone yet, he's only 6 months). So most nights she's eating while I'm nursing the baby or cleaning/packing up for the next day.
