I always think of the line in the movie "Christmas Story" that says something like "my mother hadn't had a hot meal in over seven years." She's pretty independent and either wants me to sit with her or she wants me to go away (every day it's different) - also, I don't eat dinner with her so it's harder for me to just sit there and watch.</p> <p>When we're out and eating in a resto or something, we always remain seated. Unfortunately, when we're with my MIL, she encourages LO to get out of her seat and roam around. It drives me nuts and it's what we argue about the most because DH and I are trying to teach her proper mealtime manners but she thinks we should let her explore. I hadn't realized just how often I get up to get a glass of water or a fork! No wonder the kids just wander all over the dining area during meal time! I've been setting a bad example...</p> <p>Anyway as penance, I talked to Charlie about the importance of staying seated and then last night, he stayed seated for all of dinnertime the first time ever. This morning, he mentioned on his own how he was staying seated during breakfast too. Wow, I could get used to this!!!</p> <p>Do you stay seated (without getting up) for the entire dinner with your LO? Does your LO stay seated too? (Doesn't count if you strap them in haha!) </p>
