I get up only to get her more to drink!
We've been making an effort to stay seated during meal times too!

I don't think so, my kids sit just fine, but I always have to get up to get something. I always think of the line in the movie "Christmas Story" that says something like "my mother hadn't had a hot meal in over seven years." I feel like I'm constantly getting up for more water, different fork, more napkins etc.

@Rubies: Ugh...babies don't need to explore in restaurants! That's a huge pet peeve of mine. There's other people in the restaurant.

We stay seated. I got tired of finally sitting down after getting DH his meal and DS his, just to have to get up cause DS already drank all his milk or something. Now, when I sit for dinner, he's gotta sit and wait if he needs anything else...and learn to pace his drink!

Both kids are strapped in! Wagon Sr. stays seated through dinner, between the two kids and helping them both eat, but there's no way I could stay seated unless we all sat right in front of the sink and the fridge somehow. Maybe in a rolling chair...! haha.

When we're at home, then no - I'm always getting up to grab something or to get dishes done while LO eats. She's pretty independent and either wants me to sit with her or she wants me to go away (every day it's different) - also, I don't eat dinner with her so it's harder for me to just sit there and watch.

When we're out and eating in a resto or something, we always remain seated. Unfortunately, when we're with my MIL, she encourages LO to get out of her seat and roam around. It drives me nuts and it's what we argue about the most because DH and I are trying to teach her proper mealtime manners but she thinks we should let her explore. UGH.

No way. I do meals alone with 2 kids and it is a zoo. Haha! It'll get better once the baby is older, but right now I am all over the place. My 3 year old always stays seated, though. And of course the baby does, too!

I have thought about this and need to start staying seated. But, like you, I'm always getting up to get something I forgot, or that DD needs.

Oh man I never realized that I get up constantly: glass of water, seconds for DH, left the stove on, condiments from fridge, ect. I should be conscious of this so LO doesn't learn bad habits from me.

Lately we've been trying to sit down with the kids for the entire meal, and to never get up. I hadn't realized just how often I get up to get a glass of water or a fork! No wonder the kids just wander all over the dining area during meal time! I've been setting a bad example...

Anyway as penance, I talked to Charlie about the importance of staying seated and then last night, he stayed seated for all of dinnertime the first time ever. This morning, he mentioned on his own how he was staying seated during breakfast too. Wow, I could get used to this!!!

Do you stay seated (without getting up) for the entire dinner with your LO? Does your LO stay seated too? (Doesn't count if you strap them in haha!)
