Like pps, I refrigerate between uses during the day. DH does all the washing at night (with hot soapy water).

I only pump once a day but wash the parts after use. Sterilize occasionally maybe once every week or two (I have the quick clean medela bags)

i put the parts in the refrigerator between uses each day, and at end of the day would clean the parts with hot water and soap. don't think i ever sterilized, except on travel when i wasn't confident that i was getting it clean enough in a hotel sink--then i would use one of the microwave bags if possible.

@gingerbebe: that's a good point. I think I feel ok going longer because the parts are only out of the fridge when I'm pumping. I might wash every day if they were out for a commute too.

No, just the first time I took it out of the package. The instructions say there's no need to sterilize after the first use. Just wash like normal dishes.

I used to put the parts in the fridge and wash every single night and then sterilize every other day when DS was a newborn. Then I realize it was warping the backs of my pump parts (I have a Medela Freestyle) so I went to handwashing in hot soapy water every night. Then I went to washing them every other day and keeping them in the fridge. But I pump from home so I never have to have the parts out of the fridge other than when I'm actually pumping.

Never. I don't see the need unless your baby is immune compromised in some way. And there is evidence that too sterile of an environment is not healthy.

I washed once a day, sometimes in the dishwasher on a sterilize setting. Otherwise I never officially sterilized pump parts or bottles after the first time.

I pumped like you- occasionally, sometimes with weeks in between. I washed with hot soapy water, let air dry, and stored for next time. I rarely sterilized. I also almost never pumped away from home. I just don't think they got that dirty.

I keep them refrigerated at work then wash wiht hot soapy water at night then sterilize. Through the week I probably pump once at night every other day. I'll let it sit probably 3 days before washing & sterilizing.

My older DD never took a bottle so I didn't bother pumping, really. My baby does take a bottle - easily. Woohoo!

But I am pumping clueless, really. Do you sterilize pump parts every day or use? I only pump once in awhile when I need to leave bottles for my Mom, definitely not daily or even weekly.
