I would just get a small something for the hostess or ask if I can bring a food item, etc.

I brought a gift to a "gifts will not be opened at the party, so please don't feel required to bring one", but I would not bring a gift if it said "no gifts" ... I think that's a pretty clear request.

I really try and respect the no gifts thing because I feel like people have their reasons for not wanting extra stuff in their home. When we are invited to no gift parties I ask for their favourite charity and make a donation in celebration of the birthday girl/boy, which has always gone down well.

I'd bring something little. The parents might want no gifts. But what about he birthday boy/girl? Something small like stickers won't clutter and you never can have too many books.

We just had a "no gifts" party this past weekend. I tucked a $25 Gap gift card in the card, so they could get some spring clothes for the birthday boy. And I'm glad I did because it looked like almost everyone brought something small.

Almost everyone I know who puts "no gifts" on the invite, really, really does not want anything. If you feel that you must, I would go with something that can be used up or thrown away later like a balloon or stickers.

I bring a book. In NYC I always said "no gifts" because we had no space for them (and LO got stuff from us, grandparents,etc.). I figured a book took up no space.

I think skipping it is perfectly reasonable. A book is nice if you want to get something though. For tiny ones a balloon is a ridiculous amount of fun too!

If it is "No gifts" for sure, I don't bring one. If it's "Gifts not necessary," I bring a book.

We did no gifts for LO's birthday and requested donations to the children's hospital instead. We got just a few gifts for LO.

Little P was invited to a birthday party for this Saturday. There was a little piece of paper added to the invite that said " no gifts please." Would you get a gift anyway?

I've been to other parties that said similar things (like "your presence is your present"), but people have still given gifts. I have a stash of $1 Target items like coloring books, bathtub paints, etc. and I'm wondering if maybe this would be appropriate? Although if it says "no gifts" do we just "obey" and do no gifts? I don't want to be rude either way!
