I remember how I felt but I don't remember the pain. Just that it sucked.

I remember the details, but I can't say that I remember vividly how painful it all was. I remember that it WAS painful, but I can't recall exactly HOW painful it was. I remember crying and yelling a lot. I remember telling my husband I never wanted to do it again without an epidural. I KNOW that it was the most painful thing I've ever felt. But... I can't quite remember what that pain felt like. I feel like it will be all new to me when/if I go through it again.

While my labor wasn't traumatic, I still remember a lot of it. I can't remember what the pain felt like though, but I do remember the sequence of events that occurred. It is a little fuzzy though. when I think about having another, I second guess whether I would go with out the epi again.

@ALV91711: there was a mom in my local la leche league chapter who came to the meeting with a 4-day old baby. I balked and asked how she did it. She said with three other children (under 5), she had no choice but to be up and running from day one. OMG I wanted to die just thinking about it.

@grizz: I'm so sorry hon. I went into mine expecting similar to Bradley method. It does get easier to handle. And like you, I didn't want to remember anything about that day initially. Although I can now, when I look at pics from in the hospital, all I remember is passing out, pain, and being in a complete fog from all the awful medication. It wasn't a happy time. I was much happier coming home and definitely value those photos more.

I do remember everything but the specifics like how dilated I was when I got the epi etc I do need to refer to my birth story.

Overall I had a very positive birth experience minus the head LC whom I will refuse to see at my next childbirth.

@Mrs. Pen: Same.

My planned Bradley birth turned into some kind of horror show. 32 hours (29 unmedicated) of back labor, hemorrhaging, my son being caught under my pelvic bone every push for 3.5 hours, tearing, you name it. It wasn't calm or peaceful or happy. Most of it was spent shrieking at my husband that something must be wrong - and I was right! The OB and nurses thought I was just being a wimp. I was convinced I was going to die at the end of pushing when they got out the vacuum and gave me just a few sets of pushes with it before they wanted to go to an emergency c-section. Thankfully we made it and he was born, but not without a severe hemangioma from the vacuum.

Our TTC timeline for number two went from six months to indefinitely because neither DH or I can handle doing it again that soon. I haven't even posted my birth story here because it makes me sick to recount it, and I still can't look at pictures of that day.

@ALV91711: same... I had anxiety about using the bathroom for about 6 weeks. And had bladder issues in general for a year. Recovery is no joke!

At least recovery with subsequent children is "easier" (according to my mom, who had six).

@Crumbs: I remember thinking to myself ohmygod I WISH I could die. I was miserable. I didn't have any pain meds. I remember my mom asking me if I wanted some, and I just couldn't even concentrate on answering the question because I was way too involved and focused on what I was doing and trying to get through every contraction that I couldn't think or process anything.

@aprk: oh I hear ya lady. Once I hit 6 months pp, I started thinking I might do it again. I know I want at least one more kid, so I will do it again, but gosh it was brutal. I do want to take a birthing class next time, I remember having a panic attack after the first intense contraction because I didn't know how to breathe. Also- I had pre e which is why I was I diced, which made the contractions worse. So I hope and pray that I don't have that with my second!

I remember it all pretty well almost a year later. Everything went smoothly and I do get nostalgic about it. Still not doing it again :)

The long term sleep deprivation of 2 infants has scared me off further kids WAY more than my L&D experience.

@Crumbs: We had some complications too, with failing epidurals and a nasty pp hemorrhage and DH was definitely more traumatized by it than I was. Whereas in the moment I was pretty much on auto-pilot he just pretty much felt helpless (especially about the hemorrhage).

@Mrs. Pen: I felt the same way! I even said the exact same thing to DH on our way home from the hospital. I was sick, induced, with no pain meds and a failed epidural. I literally thought I was going to die. I think the doctors were all nervous too because here you only see doctors if there's a complication and there were 2 hanging out by the doorway.

Even though I remember how bad it was (and from the looks of it, DH really remembers) it's kind of getting fuzzy now. Although I think it might have traumatized him more than me.

I remember a lot of my labour and delivery and it's pretty much all positive memories for me. I can't remember any of the pain now but I do recall that the contractions were really not fun before I got the epidural. Everything else was wonderful and I loved my experience.

We've always wanted three kids but I remember thinking after we had LO, if pregnancy, labour, delivery, and recovery are always this easy, I could easily have more than three! Now that I'm pregnant and chasing around a toddler, I'm back to sticking with three!

@Smurfette: Same here.

I remember everything pretty clearly (almost 9 months later) and it doesn't deter me from wanting to give birth again. I'm actually a little nervous that my second birth can't possibly be as amazing as my first! I credit it completely to the epidural. Without it I wouldn't have been as calm or as effective when it came to pushing.

I remember it fondly, but I remembered it that way immediately. Although, I can't recall many details. I'm not sure of the hour-by-hour timeline (like, what time it was when they broke my water), but I can recall the overall events. And I definitely don't remember specifically how I physically felt, although I remember how I acted. I can't describe the "pain" or even remember the level of pain. Hormones, man!

My entire family (grandma, mom, sister) are shocked that I vividly remember every minute of my labor and that I'm still traumatized by the pain. They all said that it only took a few months to forget it and now all they have are fond positive memories if their labor and deliveries. But honestly the day I birthed my son, I felt I wanted to die. I felt guilty for a long time that the day he was born was nowhere near the happiest day of my life. In all honesty it has definitely delayed my baby fever! I am so scared to go through that again! I initially told DH there was no freaking way I was having another child if I had to go through that to have one.

Is this normal? Did you "forget" your L&D experience? Did it impact how many kids you want to have,
