I went to a highly recommended gynecologist, but she didn't deliver babies. When DH and I thought about TTC, I switched to a practice that did deliver babies. We'll see how I feel after we're done having kids, but I'd be okay going back to just seeing the gynecologist again. She's hard to get in to see though. She's hella busy!

I plan on it. I went to a regular gyn before kids and saw the midwife for my last pap. I just saw a pcp for the first time in years and he basically told me to continue doing that because I don't need a regular physical every year.

I'm not sure whether we're done or not but for my next PAP I'm seeing the midwives who cared for me during my pregnancy and delivered DD. It's just because I miss them and want to update them on what she's up to, though! Otherwise, I guess I'm in the minority that I'm totally fine with having my PCP do my PAP smears unless I have specific gyn concerns. It's not like you're not getting them done at all...personally, I've never noticed a difference in my quality of care when I've seen an OBGYN vs PCP. I do like seeing the MWs though, because the appointments are longer so I have more time to talk about any questions or concerns.

i saw a PCP that used to deliver, so i felt comfortable with her level of care. don't know what i'll do when i'm done having kiddos, but probably find someone the sae!

I saw a GYN prior to having kids and will continue once this LO has arrived. I think seeing a physician that specializes in what you're going for is important.

I think its important to still have a checkup with a OBGYN annually. I will continue to do so when I stop having kids. However, I rarely see my GP these days - only when I am sick or need something.

Recently we had a close family friend find out she had a large cyst that had to be surgically removed - she was lucky it wasnt worse. As it turned out - she had stopped seeing a OBGYN after her baby years were over and had not had a pelvic done in years. My step dad is a retired OBGYN and said he used to perform surgeries on people all the time who likely could have had less invasive procedures done had the issues been caught sooner through the annual pelvic exam.

I'm done having babies and I still see my Ob/Gyn annually. I actually look forward to seeing him because he's such a wonderful physician! I only see a GP if I'm sick, and I don't even have a regular one.

I had my first few gynecological exams with a gp before seeing an ob/gyn, and honestly-- never again. Those first few paps hurt! The specialists I've seen since know what they're doing so much better

This is only hypothetical for me right now but assuming my PCP stays the same between now and then I will just see her. I know her style week enough though so I know at the first whisper of something being out of her league she will refer me to a great specialist.

I used to see a gyn that was also a primary care doc. Before that I had separate, though come to think of it I have never seen an OB- just gyn before baby, and midwife for baby stuff.

I would feel comfortable doing the same thing once babies are done, seeing a pcp who specializes in gyn care. An ob isn't necessary I don't think.

Yes, just like I saw a GYN before I had children. I guess I'd rather see someone who specializes more for the gyn stuff, in case there are any issues. Honestly, I've never once considered having my primary physician (whether they were male or female) also serve as my gyno.

I still see an ob/gyn -but I also had a mirena put in last year. Truthfully, I'm more comfortable with my ob/gyn doing pelvic exams than my primary doctor. If my primary doctor was a woman, I probably would let her do it.

Or just a primary? I have the choice of seeing both...primary could do the PAP, though. It would save me an appointment. I have not been to the OB/GYN since my 6-week appointment 2.5 years ago post-babies, not planning to get pregnant again so not sure I need to see one, but is there potentially something a general practitioner might miss?
