Nope. They're both in the 90ths for height and 50ths for weight and just always have been. Our ped says they're long, lean, and healthy, and they follow their own curves just fine.

When DD1 was an infant, and her tongue tie hadn't yet been corrected, I did worry a little, and added coconut oil to her food, but she didn't slip much, and caught right back up.

I do worry, but this is a newer thing, I didn't worry so much when my son was under 2 years old. But with his oral motor issues and his limited food intake, I do worry that he's not eating enough of the right foods to make him gain weight and grow. It's not that I worry about him being small, it is more that he doesn't get the right nutrients with his mono-dieting tendencies.

I worry on the other side- my daughter is 31 months and 35 lbs/38 inches, so in the high 90 percentiles for height and weight. I feel worried that she will not be confident if she's much bigger than other children.

I worry about my oldest. She will be 4 in May and is just under 29 lbs (but 40 1/2 inches tall, so she's no shorty). All the doctors say she's healthy, and I know she is, but it would put me at ease if she had a little meat on her bones. Every time she gets sick and stops eating, I go mad trying to force her to eat. I wish she at least weighed 30 lbs right now. :)

As long as they're following their curve (which they have been) I don't worry. I also don't fight food battles.

Now lo3 might be a little different because he was IUGR, but we'll see what happens when he gets home.

Kind of- I don't stress about actual #s or %s, since he was teeny tiny at birth and is still small. So as long as he is continuing to grow along his own curve, then I'm more than ok with that. But if at any point he plateaus or fails to gain weight, then I will probably start to worry!

A little. T is 10 mo and gained weight super fast at first- now she has hit a plateau and has only gained 8 oz in 5ish months. She went from 50+% to under 10. But she also grew over 3 inches. Both her MD and ND says she's doing great, and her curve with height is good per them. And her thighs are still fat sooooo.....

More concerned than worried, but on the other end. My son loves to eat and I was hoping he didn't jump too much in percentages. He jumped from the 60s to the 85th, but his height jumped to 85th as well.

Yes, but in the opposite direction. I was always heavy as a child, and I don't want DD to go through that. But she's at the 41% for weight and 38% for height, so I try not to worry too much, as long as she's not eating junk.

I worried with our first until age 2. Low birth weight (5 lb 5 oz, 17.5 inches) and wasn't on the charts for a long time. He finally got on the chart at 1% and followed it there for a long, long time. But I think the biggest thing was that he wasn't a great drinker. Didn't love nursing, didn't drink a ton from bottles. So his size was one thing, but the fact that he didn't eat well made it a lot worse. At 1, he was 18 lbs even. He didn't hit 20 lbs until after 18 months. And then hit the picky age so I worried more until age 2. His eating habits became a little more clear at that age - he eats enough, but he eats slowly and grazes throughout the day. At age 3, he was 27.5 lbs. Still tiny. But healthy, happy, and thriving in all respects. My husband still tries to make him more than he wants, which annoys me, but he doesn't fixate on size, so that's good.

My second was also low birth weight (5 lb 6 oz, 19 inches) but loves to eat. Nursed all day, loved solids. Very food motivated. He is also small (5% most of his first year) and was 19.5 lbs at a year. I just didn't worry since he ate well and gained on his own curve and had been through it with my first.

Frankly, with my husband, the only thing that works is a frank conversation. So sometime (NOT right after he makes a comment about weight, just some neutral time) I would say something like "you are spending a lot of emotional energy on LO's weight. It's stressful for me amd for you and I'm concerned that LO will start to pick up on the pressure. The pediatrician says LO is healthy. Percentiles aren't goals, they're descriptions. 10% is not worse than 50 or 90. You need to stop obsessing over this and work on letting it go. If you are concerned and want to keep discussing it then you need to make an appointment with the pediatrician to discuss it. This worry does not need to be part of our life anymore."
Then every time going forward that it came up I would say a gentle, neutral "oh. Are you going to call the pediatrician?"

I'm aware this is pretty blatant. We've been doing some work on our marriage and this kind of communication is what works FOR US. We try to be gentle and kind in our words as much as possible so that when we are up front and firm like this it isn't hurtful. Just clear. Enough is enough. Reality check.

Yes, I do. Constantly. However I'm beginning to realize that stressing doesn't help anything. My kiddos were just meant to be small.

DS is 2.5 years old, he weighs about 26 lbs. I think he was 23ish pounds at 2 years (6 lbs 15 oz at birth).

DD is 6 months and weighs 13 lbs 2 oz. She is so super tiny but always on the move and totally developmentally on track. (6 lbs 7 oz at birth)

Some kids are just meant to be small. The reason the growth curves are the way they are is because there are kids on both ends of the curve.

Try not to stress!

Dd has always been tiny. Not too surprising since I was too and I always heard stories about my mom being told by doctors to get me to eat more food/fattier foods.

But dd has always dropped percentiles. After her 6 months appointment, I think, our doctor wanted to come in for a weight check which she "passed." But at her 12 month visit she was down to the 0%ile (.4% technically) so we scheduled another weight check which is this Friday.

So overall I'm not really concerned but the fact our doctor wants to keep scheduling weight checks is a little stressful.

In the beginning I did because he dropped weight fast as a nb and had jaundice. Now I don't worry about him growth at all because frankly, he's huge. I did get a little concerned when he was being super picky about eating the past couple days, but I don't think he's sick, just asserting himself.

@Mrs. Carrot: @Anagram: Yeah, this surprised me too - don't show my husband your chart! Because at 2, my son is 23 pounds. The app I'm using puts him at 10% (his highest percentile ever!) which is what I told my husband, and even that didn't reassure him that everything was fine.
