I swaddle then nurse. If we swaddle after a feed, he wakes up. He doesn't dislike the swaddle, but he does always fight to get his hands out.

@Bookish: I'm dreading this too. The swaddle is great because it lets him know its bedtime, but now he won't take a long nap or go to sleep at night without it!

I swaddle then nurse, always. We have to use swaddlemes, and even then she struggles, but she always calms down eventually and then falls asleep. I'm dreading the day when we have to swaddle wean....

We swaddled then nursed. In the middle of the night, we did diaper, red waddle, nursed. If I tried to swaddle after she would wake up and take forever to go down.

@delight: oh, the A&A swaddles don't stand a chance against M!

@Foodnerd81: I got a swaddle strap (the kind that just goes over her arms) so I can change her without unswaddling. It's made life much easier!

When M was little it seemed like she would always poop in the middle of a feed so I would nurse her on one side, then DH would take her, change diaper and swaddle and bring her back for the other side so I could nurse to sleep. No wonder all of our time revolved around feeding her!

Ummmm....both? I actually start her last feeding and once she is starting to tire out, swaddle her, and then finish her bottle. I EP so this is a lot easier than having to worry about latching/unlatching. Maybe you could do something like this?

I've tried to swaddle after feeding and it doesn't work well at all because she is used to eating to sleep for her final feeding...

I swaddle her first but she doesn't hate it like yours. She might fight being put in but then relaxes once she is nice and snug. I nurse her to sleep and do not want to wake her to swaddle her.

I also don't unswaddle during night feeds unless I am pretty sure she pooped, which doesn't do a lot at night any more. She usually only sleeps another 2 hours after her night feed anyway.

My LO doesn't love the swaddle either unless its just a swaddle with an A&A blanket. I don't think she fights it as much as yours though. I don't dare wake her, however, after she falls asleep nursing so my routine is to change her, swaddle and then feed. She usually only feeds 10 mins during the night feedings and I just cross my fingers she doesn't poop and I have to start the whole routine again!

My LO does not like the swaddle, but if we don't swaddle her she wakes every hour. I have always swaddled her before nursing her at bedtime, but she gets distracted while nursing because she's frustrated that she's swaddled and tries to get out of it. Eventually she gives up, continue nursing, and falls asleep.

I am wondering if it would be better to nurse her first then swaddle? But I am worried that the swaddle will wake her up and she will be pissed then it will take even longer to get her down.

What has worked best for you? Has anyone done both and found that one method was better than the other?
