@BeachMama: We have the Bjorn crib and have flown with it a few times. Be very very careful with this option! The times we have flown with it in Europe it has counted as a baby item (like a stroller or car seat) and they didn't charge. However, when we were coming back with it from Asia this spring, they wanted to charge us $150 because it was considered extra baggage, even though we were flying on an European airline. After some haggling, they let us carry it on since we were under the carry on limit. Thankfully it fit in the overhead, but it was a big plane and there is no way it would have fit on a small airplane.

How long will you be at your in-laws, and do you plan on visiting often? The first time we went to visit my dad (10 day trip), I had him buy a used PNP from a children's consignment store, and now he keeps it at his house for our future visits. Maybe that could be an option?

DD is 14 months.

We may try practicing sleeping on an air mattress so see if we could just put her on one at the in laws house. Otherwise I think we'll buy a cheap one and have it sent there. As much as I hate to say it, I'm sure this wont be the only time we go visit them :-)

how old is LO?

We don't fly with ours...too cumbersome.
first we try to borrow one.
If we are are staying in a king size bed we co sleep.
if all else fails we get a cheap one shipped to that address from walmart.com or no better deal ($45) which is less than it eould cost to check ours.

We only use it for road trips. IMO it's too heavy and unwieldy to fly with especially since you need to pay for luggage on many airlines. We are doing our first plane trip later this month and w are going to get either a GoCrib or baby bjorn travel lite.

@BeachMama: I flew a regional European airline that was super family friendly, so no.

It fits in my big suitcase though, and I cram stuff inside it to gain a little space back.

Do your in-laws have friends with grandchildren that they may be able to borrow one from? When we visited my parents, my mom borrowed one from a co-worker. Then I just had to bring a sheet from home. Worked much better than trying to fly with one.

We bring our PNP but we never fly with it. One of the bees just wrote a travel post recently and I think they flew with theirs?

We always bring our PnP. E will not co-sleep with us anymore, and he'd walk right out of a floor bed. But we've never flown with it (or flown with him, period).

We are headed up to my in laws for a visit later this month. It'll be our first flight with DD. I'd like to minimize the amount of crap we shlep through the airport and possibly avoid taking our P&P. DD is a great sleeper but very curious especially in new surroundings. I'm afraid if we try to make a floor bed or something she'll just crawl around instead of sleeping. And we probably won't go visit the in laws enough to justify buying them a P&P.

What do you use for a bed when you travel with LO?
