Never!!!! My DH works on escalators and elevators. Escalators are just a giant meat grinder. He says never ever ever take a stroller on it.

I wouldn't ever take it on the escalator if there was an elevator. For instance, at the mall... NEVER!

But as I mentioned in the other thread, the London Underground had stations with no elevator at all. I guess we could have carried the baby and folded up the stroller... we didn't think about it and to be honest, it was so crowded at times between the train and the escalator there was no space to do this so we took the escalator with one parent in front of the stroller and one parent behind.

@mrbee: ;) I see! No wonder I haven't seen it! Our mall as security all around escalator areas I think for that reason!

I think if I did, I would fold it up so it wouldn't take up the whole escalator. I know a lot of people have big, heavy ones though so I'm not sure what other people would do!

@shopaholic: Yah it's not allowed. I think people tend to do it when the elevators are broken, don't run regularly or are slow...

The only time we would take an escalator is if we are at the mall. But I wouldn't take a stroller on it since there are plenty of elevators. I would be afraid of something getting stuck!

We have taken a stroller on an elevator many times. Usually it's when my DH is with us, since a lot of elevators have those signs that say no stroller allowed, and I'm too much of a rule follower.

I thought that wasn't allowed anymore? We used to do it all the time with my siblings, but I haven't seem anyone do that around here in, well, I can't remember when! But I basically just see escalators at the mall . Subways are probably a very different obstacle course!

Haven't had to yet. I take the elevator, but if DH is there one of us will hold the stroller and the other will hold LO.

If there's an option, I like to take the elevator. If I have just one kid with me, then I'll just carry the kid + stroller up the stairs myself. Or I'll fold up the stroller and carry it on my back up the stairs...

I haven't taken a double stroller (or a wide single) stroller on the escalator... just because it would block the entire escalator. If I was in a hurry, then maybe I would consider it? My preference would be to fold up the double stroller and carry it on my back, and divvy up the kids between the parents' arms.

In any case, the NYC subway system doesn't really have many escalators so it's kind of a moot point. We just have stairs and if we're lucky, the occasional aromatic elevators.

Do you take strollers on the escalator?
