When DD was younger we generally just declined or had my mom come and watch her sleep while we went out without her. Now that she is older and DS is in the mix, we try to adjust naps and will go out past bedtime, but for the most part, still don't stay out too late.. I've found that a few hours of evening fun lead to crazy MOTN wake ups and bad attitudes for all! Lol.

On special occasions they will go to bed late. Like parties, family events, holidays, etc. But anything past 930 or 10....they would probably fall asleep on the floor.

B is super flexible so I have no problem pushing nap/bedtime back. His normal bedtime is on the later side (8:30ish most nights) but he's been out as late as 11:30 without any issues. He usually sleeps later the next morning but it never messes up his nap/bedtime the following day.

We stay flexible even though both of my boys are early birds and would prefer to be in bed by 7pm. Most of the time I can get DS#2 asleep in the ergo and DS#1 either has meltdowns or will adjust; it's a crapshoot. Life is too short

E doesn't have a set bedtime. We try between 7:30 and 8:30 but she has stayed up until 10 before because we were out - it has never affected her sleep.

I'm not a big fan of messing with nap time simply because it really sets the tone for the rest of the day.

Bedtime is a little more negotiable. Tonight we will have them out a bit later because of my Dad's birthday party. By the end I expect they'll be melting down a little bit, but we will have a 45 minute drive home and they'll be able to sleep in the car on the way back. I'll have them in their pjs so it will just be a quick transfer from car seat to bed.

Yeah, we left for a local Oktoberfest at 7pm. It was a Saturday and I knew they could sleep in the next day.

We do keep LO out or up past her usual if there's a family party or something unusual like the other night when I waited for DH to get home from work so we could both go vote. LO has never had any resemblance of a nap schedule and fights sleep so missing a daytime nap to attend an event isn't something I worry about.

If I really want to go and I think he will have fun or see relatives he hasn't seen in a while, I will push bedtime. We have become more relaxed about that stuff the older he's gotten.

It depends what it is. I declined a dinner party invite at 6:30 last night b/c E's bedtime is 6:45. I don't like to mess with weeknight sleep....or weeknights in general. Otherwise i don't get stuff done before work the next day. I have no problem staying out late Fri/Sat with her

@Bao: We do take her out. But, we're first time parents, so she's our "practice child". I might try to stretch nap out longer or later if I know we'll be out. I always bring a carrier, too, in case she wants to pass out. Usually, she's back to normal the next day.

We are getting together tonight with DH's immediate family to celebrate my nieces birthday. DH doesn't get home until 6:15pm so we won't be getting to the get together until about 6:30pm. LO2 goes to bed at 6:00pm and LO2 at 7:00pm. I'm pretty lax on adjusting their bedtimes so we can still attend things. Same goes for naps, I will adjust them or skip them if need be. I'm a little nervous about tonight though because it's been a while since I've tried messing with LO2's bedtime!

If you have something going on that your LO is invited to/can attend, but it is going to interfere with their bedtime, do you still take them? What about for naps? If you don't like to mess with their sleep schedules do you just kindly decline the invite?
