It depends on the cause of the fever. DS gets fevers if he is teething so yes, sometimes we still do. Same with shots, he still goes.

If it is shot related, I have given her tylenol and sent her to school. The meds always lowered her fever though.

He has to be fever free for 24 hours before he can go back to daycare. If they take his temp and he has a fever, we have to go get him.

The first year sucks, you miss a lot of work, but it gets much better. We've only had to take him home once (he came down with a fever after lunch) and he was cool to the touch the next morning. It happened on a Friday afternoon so he was back in daycare Monday morning. So basically, for this school year he has only missed one afternoon of daycare due to illness so far. KNOCK ON WOOD!

Our daycare prohibits children from attending if they have not been fever free for at least 24 hours.

Yes, it stinks, but you'd also hate to assume your kid had a fever because of shots, but it turned out to be something serious and contagious and half the class got sick.

I'd be really mad if LO got sick because someone took their sick kid to school.

@regberadaisy: Oh no... I am so sorry to hear that.... I hope she has recovered already..!

I am wondering about my future because we just started daycare only a few weeks ago and this is the second time he has a fever within these few weeks (already!!!). The first time was an ear infection (daycare called thursday, and we stayed home friday). I am hoping this time is truly vaccine-related, or I am not sure if we can stay in the daycare if he gets a fever every other week. It will be a huge bummer because I sooo love our daycare, but I might as well quit working if he randomly gets fever and I have to stay home randomly for days at a time.

She has to be under 101 for 24 hours before we can bring her back in. She had a fever last week on Monday. I stayed home with her Tuesday and my husband on Wednesday even though she was clear to go back. Then we sent her back Thursday. It is a tough choice though bc not only are you losing pay you are also still paying for day care!
We ended up getting a call Friday morning bc she had a rash. Turned out it was roseola!

Our LO is in a nanny share and not daycare, but we have an agreement that we don't keep the babies together when 1) they have a fever 2) diarrhea 3) some kind of illness besides a cold.

This is my 2nd day off of work this week to stay home with LO because she has a fever. I don't know, this seems kind of crazy and like I might be taking sick days often. I feel bad about it sometimes, but I don't know what else to do. This is definitely mommy-tracking me at work!

@littlek: Mine won't either normally, but they know that he had his 1 year old shots last week, and the doctor has told us that he will develop a fever this week. So the daycare was ok for him to come in since it is not contagious.

Do you take your LO to daycare if he has a fever?

If your LO has a fever for several days in a row but is very normal / playful otherwise, would you take him/her to daycare?

My LO had his 1 year shots last Friday, and developed a fever on Sunday (102-103 when it first happened), and up until today (the 5th day) he still has a mild 100.4F this morning when I took his temperature. He does have a cold, but every single kid in the daycare has the exact same symptoms (other than I am not sure if they have a fever). He's very normal and playful otherwise. I must confess for I did take him to daycare except yesterday. Since it is probably vaccine-related the daycare is OK with him coming in.

I just wonder... how can anyone afford to stay home with the sick child for a week... and kids don't just get sick one time in a year?

What would you do ?
