For facials and massage, I go to the same people I've been going to for years so we have a routine worked up so nothing is awkward. I chit-chat before/after the treatment, I never talk during the treatment. When they strike up a conversation, I'll give a short polite answer and then I'll say shortly after, "Mmm, this is so relaxing. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy this... don't mind me if I close my eyes!" I used to have a massage therapist that I loved because she would tell me all about her life. Her moving in with her boyfriend, her friend as their roommate, the first time I was in there she told me that she thought she was pregnant and hadn't told anyone yet!
