From there I had a wide local excision done to remove anything abnormal that may have been left over. The Dr. said that if I had as much "sun" (tanning bed...) exposure as I did to result in the mole that was as severely atypical as it was, I need to come in every 6 months as my risk for melanoma is SO much higher. I did for like a month a few years ago, but decided it was too expensive and not really worth it. I'm so pasty white anyway, I think tanning's probably really bad for my skin. I read an article about a trucker that drove for his whole life without sunscreen and the left side of his face has WAY more wrinkles than the right. It was like scared straight - sun damage edition.<br /> That and last year DH lost a friend to melanoma at just 29 - it had metastasized to his brain and he was gone three months after the initial skin cancer diagnosis.
