I don't think I would mind too much. My LO is 17 months and she gets tastes of fro yo or ice cream about once a week. It's usually when she's hanging out with DH- he loves ice cream and its their "thing" to share a cone together when they are out together in sunny weather :)

I would have a problem with that too. At almost 2 yrs old is just when we started having a few more treats. Especially since its summer and we've had a lot of family in town so I've been way more relaxed about it. I think once a week at daycare is excessive, (for my preference). Especially at just 13 months. But thats just me.

@StbHisMrs: Yes there is a great coupon right now, it brings it down to like $8 for 15 cups! The only thing we have found with Costco is the orange box of chobani flavors is made with the 2% milk I guess. Its thicker which is good for our toddler but not for me eating it as a diet breakfast!

@MEDIAGIRL: I'd send in yogurt too, I've always been the mean Mom. My husband on the other hand.. I went home for lunch about a month ago and I caught him sharing a Hagen Daz bar with her! I know she's had her fair share of junk from him!!! I try not to buy it, but he does and then he shares!!

@T.H.O.U.: Thank you for this!! I've always wanted to buy Chobani at Costco, but I knew we'd throw half of it away because we don't go through it fast enough. I'm adding that to my list on Saturday, especially since there's a coupon!

I also wouldn't be comfortable with it being given at that frequency. I'm not against treats every now and then but this is more often than that. I'd send something different too.

Yes that is way too young!!! That is sugar every single week for no specific reason. Someone brought cupcakes into school earlier this week and I told the daycare lady my son wasn't having any and that isn't every week. These are toddlers.

Everyone's different, but Wagon Jr. never had sweets on a regular basis until just recently... probably past age 3. He still doesn't get ice cream regularly. Just as a treat when he finishes his whole dinner. If he finishes some or most of it, he gets a "small treat" which is usually fruit snacks. Sometimes a cookie or two. I know once they're older dessert and treats become a regular part of life, so I like to have a lot of control over when/how they get them for as long as I possibly can!!

I would send in a frozen gogurt (easier to eat!) and tell them no ice cream for my LO.

@mediagirl: If you buy the individual serving containers, just set them in the fridge! We do it all the time because we buy her Chobani at Costco, so we keep it longer frozen and just take out what we need for the week. My SIL used to buy the sweet chocolate dessert yogurts and freeze those for my niece.

We make our own ice cream and Lorelei has some on occasion when we do. I don't prefer her to eat lots of synthesized ingredients right now since her body is so small, but I don't mind her eating "dessert" foods on occasion when they are made at home from whole ingredients. I think if you prefer to send something else that's just fine and she is young enough that it shouldn't bother her and will also be healthier!

I agree with @rubies: 1 is too young but 2 is probably fine. A lot changes diet-wise between 1 and 2, at least it did in our house. I think your solution sounds fine. I also think ice cream is probably not any worse than juice or EVEN some yogurts depending on how much sugar and fat they have!

I would not be ok with it. If I would want my child to have a weekly "treat", I would want it to be with me. That way I could control what and how much. Recently at a birthday party, I gave my 19 month old a plate of fruit while he sat at a little table surrounded by kids eating cupcakes. He enjoyed his fruit ( asked for more and got several refills). He didn't question why he had something different and the little girl next to him even asked her dad for strawberries. Long response to say yes, I would bring my own!
