I did, when I was 5 months pregnant and moving to our current city, and still do now. Before, I was looking at the best school district, then I found out that all parents in this district put their child's name on a waiting list for kindergarten at birth, and now I'm wondering whether or not I should put her in "late" (as the school's calendar cuts off REALLY early in the year for birthdays)!

I used to laugh and shudder a little at the idea of having a baby on a waiting list for school. I still laugh when I think about how LO is on one, but I am determined to let her be a little girl and play and explore all she can on her own before starting school.

I think about it alot. We are living overseas now but I really worry about what we would do if we were to return to the States. I've read so many stories online about how the school systems in the states are having problems, financially and dealing with classroom size, etc. It's something we won't have to seriously think about for another 6 years probably but it is definitely a big worry for me.

Yep when I bought this house, the good school system was the selling point.

If we move within the next 5yrs, it will be to another good school system.

For sure it was a big deal, although we knew we'd buy a house in the town where I grew up, and our LO's will go to the same elementary I went to and they'll have their choice if High Schools when that time comes, but all of the schools around here are pretty good.

Yes, and since our area doesn't have a lot of great public schools, we've already decided that as long as we can afford it, we'll go private when she starts school.

Yes, because I am thinking about supplementing preschool part time with a Montessori homeschool program. I am not worried about elementary school just yet because so much could change!

I haven't really. When we move I'll think about it but right now it feels out of my hands. We'll move in 2-1/2 years and I have no idea to where so I feel like it's not something to think about until I at least know what part of the country we'll be in. But when we are looking for a house we will consider school district.

Sometimes. We're going to have to make a huge choice to move or stay in about 5 years... coinciding with LO's entrance into kindergarten. In our current school district, our town has independent schools and they are wonderful. If we moved, we would have to consider schools and I shudder to think of having to do that all over again.

Yes, as a teacher its something I am constantly aware of. I was actually thinking the other day about an area where geographically I'd want to live, but I'm aware that the high school there is AWFUL.. My future children's education is definitely something I think about a lot.

Unfortunately the schools around our current home are pretty bad. There is a lot of gang activity at the nearest High School and there is low-income housing next to one of the closest elementary schools. I think we will be moving to a different area before our child hits High School.

We have 13 years or so until then, so our plan is to pay down the house as much as possible so we don't have a big mortgage when we move. The bummer is - we LOVE our house and our lot and know we won't get anything like it if we move closer to the city or towards where we both work.

we are house hunting now and it's certainly at the top of our list. Where we currently live, we would send the children to private school.

Most definitely. DH and I househunted together a year before marriage, but school systems was definitely on our list of "keep in mind"... While we aren't in our forever home, the school district in our area is a blue-ribbon system and will definitely suffice for our future kids' early elementary educations.

I think about it all the time. in fact it consumes me! It is a pretty big deal in NYC, especially because of the insane costs of purchasing property. I have decided not to worry about it for my immediate purchase. Honestly, I just have to swing whatever we can afford tha isn't in the ghetto. Hahaha.

I absolutely think about this. And honestly, even if you never planned on having children... it's smart to investigate the school system before buying a house because it can have a large impact on your resale value.

We aren't TTC yet but it looks like a move is in our near future. Even though it will probably be (at least) 8 years before our first child enters elementary school, I have done A TON of research on the school systems in the area we might be moving to! In fact, I am very well versed in their charter/magnet school system now. It seems kind of silly because it will all probably change by the time our kids go to school, but I feel like it's important to be thinking about. I would hate to buy a home in a neighborhood that turns out to have terrible public schools and have no choice but private, when there are good schools the next neighborhood over.

Anyone else think about this a lot?
