I think it's half and half. Sure they didn't have as many resources as us but that meant they didn't over analyze the little things which ends up being extremely tiring.

I think back then they werent as overly protective like we are now. I mean my mom let me play at the park alone at 5. (park was in front of the house, but still) now we don't want out kids to be in contact with anyone with a cold. Times change.

My mom says the same thing. She sees my sister and I struggling and exhausted and we both only have 1 each and my mother had 4 at one point she had 3 little ones with 2 of them under a year apart! And like most in their generation the husbands weren't very hands on.

I think we have over complicated things in our age with all the technology and gadgets and chasing the latest and greatest for our children and we kill ourselves with guilt. My mom told me there was only 1 bottle and 1 nipple and everyone used the same things. She used to poke the holes with a needle to make it bigger when we got older for the fast flow.

I also think one of the major contributing factor is also cost of living and inflation. Everything has gotten soo expensive it's really hard for families to have one parent stay at home and still be able to maintain a quality life. So I definitely think it was easier back then but we have more at our disposal, almost too much.

Definitely..

While we have more resources like megwag mentioned.. I think the general institution of family and childrens innocence has just about gone out the window and that makes raising kids how we'd like harder and definitely takes more against the grain work.

I know that my parents didn't have to worry about us being exposed to so many of the things I find myself having to filter for 7 y/o DS today... and like you mentioned, more moms were SAHM so there was more of a "community" & connected feel to family then there is now with both parents being out of the house in many instances.

I know that everyone generation has had it's hard aspects though, I just think that our generation has alot of up stream fighting to instill the things we'd like.

i think it was simpler but the labor could not have been easier since there weren't so many modern conveniences. like my mom had to hand wash everything -- omg, can't imagine ever having to do that. however, there weren't the high expectations that you have in our generation where just about everyone is a perfectionist/type A control freak.

I think we have better access to more resources now, but the pressures and expectations of society have increased too. I'm not sure... it might even out when all the factors are weighed.
My initial gut reaction was that it was simpler back then.

When my mom sees how hard it is to be a parent nowadays, she wonders how she did it all by herself back in the day. My dad didn't really help at all during the baby stage, and when I was born in Korea, all women were SAHM's.

I think life was simpler back then. It seems like we have to juggle so much more nowadays. Then again, we have the help of our husbands. I don't think men were as hands on with parenting then as they are now. Or maybe moms were just tougher back then.

Do you think it was easier to raise kids in your parents' generation or is it easier now?
