In a perfect world, clear cases would all proceed like Ariel Castro's case. Defendant pleas guilty and the sentence is handed out rather quickly. No fees wasted on trial. But nearly all cases that go to trial are not "clear cases." And everyone in our country is entitled to a defense should they desire one - regardless of their ability to pay for one. And most importantly, every person is entitled to a presumption of innocence. That's what makes our country great!
