Another Nov 12 mama too! I have been struggling with this as well. He can go without a nap some times and then will just fall asleep sooner. But there are days where he just totally loses it without the nap. So I think we'll be in the camp of always trying to get him to nap and if not, we'll try to enforce a quiet time period. And if we have to skip a nap all together, we'll adjust his bedtime. Or at least, we can skip a nap more than 1 or 2 days in a row.

@Eminthevalley: no reason for her to sleep til 9, I usually have to wake her up earlier to get her to school/nanny...

@mrsjyw: @DillonLion: Hi Nov '12 mamas! I do love the break time during the day. Maybe i'll start with cutting naps at 2 hours and early wake ups and see if I can't keep it a bit longer :)

Mine is doing the same thing (fellow Nov 12 momma here too!). We've skipped naps on occasion with no change to her mood, but I really like having the break during the day on the weekends, so I'm hesitant to give it up. We just transitioned her to a regular bed, so her sleep is a mess in general. I think we may look into this once her sleep stabilizes.

I'm all for keeping the nap as long as you can't! I'd try waking her at 7 or so and see if that helps. My three year old twins wake at 6:00-6:30, nap 1-3, bed at 7:00 so a 9:00 wake up seems really late to me, but I know different families have different schedules. Is there a reason to sleep in until 9:00? Like your work schedule or something? If not I would try wake up earlier.

Hi! Nov mama! :)

We dropped DS' nap probably about 5/6 months ago! He was a bear to put down for nap, then would wake up crying almost every day. His bedtime over the summer got pushed back til 8-9 depending on the day. Once we dropped the nap, he was much much happier throughout the day and got back to his 7/730 bedtime. He sleeps a solid 12/13 hours overnight again. When he had cut back his nighttime sleep to 10/11 hours prior to dropping the nap.

I would cut the nap short - no more than 2 hrs or cut the nap altogether and do a much earlier bedtime

My DD is 3 years old (38 months) and lately it takes FOREVER to put her down for her nap and bedtime. From what I read this could be an indicator it's time to drop the last nap...Her bedtime is also getting so late, I keep trying to push her schedule up but with no success. Not sure if I should just drop the nap and work on a better bed time/wake up time?

Right now I will sometimes I have to wake her at 9 (!) when she's still sleeping. She used to take her nap starting at 1230/1 and now it's more like 230 by the time she goes down. Yesterday I had to wake her from her nap at 530 (after 3 hours...). So of course she wasn't ready for bed until way too late.

I'm hesitant to drop the nap because 1) once she goes down for nap/bed she sleeps a loooong time 2) when she skips naps on occasion she is definitely more temperamental in the evening.
