It's a wonderful experience for me. However, I don't have the attention span for them unless I'm driving. I can't force myself to focus if I listen at home. Listening and reading aren't the same thing. I'm not saying listening to audio books is a bad thing (I loved it when I had a long commute) but it's just not the same as reading books in a purely literal sense. Even when having a discussion with someone else about a book I usually can't make myself say "I read that" if it was an audio book, I'll say "I listened to it" instead. </p> <p>Now is it the same in terms of ingesting the material? I recently signed up for an Audible subscription and my older daughter and I have enjoyed listening to all of the Ramona books whenever we are in the car. We just started on the Henry Huggins books. It turns out, I'm not the biggest fan and much prefer paper versions of books. I have two more audiobooks to listen to (all 3 were free, so not a waste of money), and I'm going to try my best to get through them. </p> <p>I got to thinking though, do you think listening to audiobooks counts as reading? </p>
