He works for a large corporation that is pretty family-friendly and most of his days are 9-6 with only a 10 minute commute. They are super understanding about things like doctor's appointments or the occasional need to leave the office early. It is way, way different from his 7-11 days in the city with his 5 days of paternity leave. I worked at the hospital for a couple years in the lab &amp; ultimately left because the strain of shift work on G.... I saw the doctors up there all. the. time. often having their "family dinners" in the hospital cafeteria. I loved it there but had alot of trouble finding a balance (if there is such a thing). Sure, some professions are more ideal than others. However, I think it is possible to be a stripper, porn star, and even a drug dealer and still be a good parent. If it came down to it, and I fell on hard times, I'd do whatever it takes to provide my child his basic needs. If that means becoming a stripper, then so be it. Like, if both parents have high powered jobs where they routinely work 12 hour days and have to go in on weekends, then yeah, that's going to take a major toll on the family. But if one parent does that and the other has much more flexible hours, it would be a lot easier (though, I imagine, would still suck for the parent that hardly gets to spend time with their kids).
