DH went public schools all they way, I went to a private from K-8th and then public for HS. Although it was a hard transition for me when I went to a public High school after being at a small private school and saying good bye to all my friends, I am happy I was able to experience both. However with prices the way they are now, unfortunatly I do not think we would be able to afford sending our kids to a private school even though I personally would love to and prefer to.

My husband and I are both public school taught and I don't have anything against public school. So, our kids will be going to public school. Unless, we find out the school district we live in is bad. I'm pretty sure that when our kids get close to that age that we will either move or look into private school.

As long as we move to a smaller community (which is our plan) our kids will go to Public school. If we for some reason get stuck living in our current location, we will probably sent them to Private Christian school for a smaller atmosphere.

I went to privat Catholic school until 9th grade then to public school. Husband only went to public school. I plan on sending our kids to private Catholic school at least for the elementary years. Then I will determine how they are doing. If they need extra attention I will keep them in private school.

We live in a big city where the main public school system is not very good. The "still close to the city" suburb district is fabulous but the property taxes there cost as much as private....so our options are either (a) good district + public or (b) in city + private. We may start with option b and move after elementary school. My husband is a big believer in public highschool.

Both my husband and I were homeschooled, so we plan to homeschool our kids. Of course, some kids' personalities just aren't suited to homeschooling, so we're flexible about what age they transfer to public/private school.

I went to mainly private schools, although I also went to public school briefly.. I think it all depends on what we can afford. We were looking at the cost of private school and its a lot in some areas. Having lived in europe for a while I dont like seeing kids going to school wearing "regular" clothes, I really like my kids to go to s chool that wears uniform and has less children in each class. but our finances will make the final call

I am torn by this. I was born and raised Catholic - though I do not practice anymore. I do believe in God, but that's another conversation. Anyways, I have no idea what public schools are like because I spent my entire school years in a Catholic setting. I always enjoyed being there and felt that it was a very close-knit family type of place.

In the end, I'll want the best for my children. I think it'll depend on our income, school districts, etc.

I went to private school starting in 7th grade because the public school district we lived in was terrible.

That said, I hope to purposefully buy a home in a strong school district so that my kids can attend public school. IMO there is no reason to pay the extra money for private school tuition if you don't have too. We would only do so if our kids couldn't be challenged by the public school.

Without a doubt public school. We live in a great school district and I have a background in education so I'll also be very hands-on at home, which I feel like it extremely important no matter what kind of school your child goes to.

there is absolutely no way, even with very tight budgeting, that we could ever be bale to afford sending our kids to private school. It's public all the way for us, although as part of public, we have the option for French Immersion, that only a small proportion of people choose. so its like choosing private!

If we continue living abroad, then, private school, just because all international schools are private. We choose international schools because we want our kids to go through the American school curriculum. In case we do decide to move back to the States, it will be an easier adjustment.

It depends on where we live, but I am leaning more and more towards private school. This is going to sound politically incorrect, but I think with minority kids (our kids will be Hispanic/black) it is often harder to give them an excellent education and put them on the right path. DH speaks from experience about getting crap for being a smart black kid at his public school, because most of the black kids came from rougher backgrounds. Teachers sadly can be prejudiced, especially in school districts where they have seen the stereotypes play out in front of their eyes and have become jaded. We'll have to see when we actually do have kids, but I think a diverse private school might be the best choice for us.

I have gone to both a public and private school. I would love for my kids to have the same experience. We live in a city where a few counties are horrible with their public school, but the county that is great is slowly losing money from the county government. So it will be a toss up.

We live in a big city and our public school system isn't great. My husband and I both went to private parochial (Catholic)schools from K-12. I love the parochial schools in our city, not even so much for the religious education aspect of it, but for the sense of community that I find lacking in most of our neighborhood public schools, especially in the upper levels. Having said that, we live walking distance from a GREAT public elementary school, which I would consider if money is an issue, but I would definitely want my kids in private school for middle and high school (if not sooner).

Both DH and I are public school educated, so the plan is public schools. I really think parental involvement (without excessive hovering) is key to getting the most out of an education so ideally, I would also like to remain at home as long as possible, which isn't likely if we had to turn to private school.

Hubby and I were lucky enough to grow up in one of the best public school systems in the nation. We hope to have our kids in the same system, or in nearby districts with comparably ranked public schools. I don't want our kids overloaded with work, I want them to enjoy social aspects of a public school system.

My husband and I both went to a mix between private and public....both private elementary schools, public high schools, private college. We aren't planning to have kids for a couple years, but the school system in our town is the best in the areas we could afford. I always thought I'd do private elementary, but I think because the school system is so great in our town, we'll end up doing that instead. I think there are pros and cons to each, but it really depends on how good the schools are where you live.

I went to private school, whereas my husband went to public. I am a big proponent of private school, but at the moment we are planning to send our (hypothetical) children to public school. Our current five-ish year plan is to move to a different part of our city that is in the best school district. In that district our children should be able to get a public education that is very much comparable to what they would get in a private school.

I feel completely overwhelmed when I think about school options here in the UK. I don't understand how the system works at all- and it's changed so much recently that it's even different than when my husband went through it... If I were in America I'd try really hard to do public education because I feel strongly about it ideologically.

It depends on where we will live, but we're both heavily leaning toward private school. The best private school in our current city is Catholic (and we aren't), but even knowing that, we also know it is reputed to be the best school in the area and we definitely want that. (They do take children from non-Catholic households.) My husband and I both had really crappy experiences in public school, so we don't really trust 'em even though the public schools in our area are reputed to be quite good.
