Nope. We chose a classic name partly for this reason. We didn't want something trendy.

Um I don't think so, her name is not very popular so I don't think people will assume the year.

@Foodnerd81: I don't think so because it falls in the 80's on the popularity lists and I doubt it will make top ten ever in the next couple years.

@skibobrown: I have mixed feelings about it-- like I do think my name dates me to the 80s, but I don't actually mind that so much. It was annoying to always have another in my class though. And DH's name is so common that everyone with his first name went by their last names in college. So I'd like to avoid that but the top names make up such a smaller percent of overall births than they did when we were born so I don't think it will be as much of an issue.

@Honeybee: you know that I know or know of 3 people with your name, right?

My girls have pretty classic names and if it hey got dated at all by their names it would be to 1910-1920.

I think DS has a more classic name, although it has gained popularity in the last several years, I'm not sure it would necessarily date him.

There is no way the name we picked out for our daughter would date her. It's currently out of the top 7000 and I don't foresee it gaining any sort of popilarity in the US.

My kid's name was really popular in the 80s/early 90s (like Amanda, Jessica, etc) so if she's dated they'll be wrong on her age!!

My kids' names are pretty classic, so I don't think they'll ever seem dated. My name is really unusual, so I don't think it will ever seem dated ever. It's not like there are a lot of people running around with my name from any particular decade/generation. :)

I don't think so. It's pretty uncommon (below the top 2000) but with Downton Abbey using it I think it will get more popular.

Do you think your LO's name will be indicative of when they were born? In general if I hear someone's name is Jennifer, Jessica, Amanda, I think they were likely born in the 80s since those names were SO popular then, or someone names Paula, Joan, Peggy, is probably in there 50s or 60s by now. (Boys names were so much more stable, it seems).

With the most popular names today, I feel like some will 'date' a person-- like Mason, Ava, Aiden and it's rhymes, but others seem so classic to me that even though they are really popular now I wouldn't think they will be specific to this decade-- Charlotte, Abigail, William.

My own name peaked in the early 80s and then fell out of popularity pretty quickly, so anytime I meet someone with it I assume they are about my age-- and I'm rarely wrong!
