I like to thrift but as a WOHM of 2 I don't have tons of time to comb through the racks. We get tons of great stuff at Once Upon a Child (kids resale chain) though!

Absolutely - I've just bought a ton of sweater rompers for DD3 for a fraction of their cost - I can probably resell them at my cost to purchase, no problem!

It's also great when I'm not in love with the current lines of clothes from brands that were once favorites (I'm looking at you for the last few seasons, Baby Gap), or when a piece becomes such a favorite that we want to go back and buy it in bigger/smaller sizes so the girls can match or continue wearing things they love.

Absolutely! Consignment, thrift stores, 2nd hand sales, buy nothing groups... I'm sure as LO gets older good quality used stuff will be harder to come by, but I find lots of great quality stuff.

No, since we have two girls and planning on more kids, it makes sense to invest in new stuff. I did buy our double stroller from a local mom but that's it so far.

I'm on a local FB second hand group and I've picked up some things that way. I've done the biannual flea market, but it seems like most everything is for the under 2 crowd, especially clothes.

There's a bi-annual consignment sale that I like to go to. I have no problem with used clothes, shoes, toys, etc. But I do find it way more convenient to shop places like Old Navy, Gymboree and Carters with a coupon. I like the consignment sales for mostly fill in clothes so we can stretch out how often we do laundry. You can definitely find cute stuff at the sales, but it seems to take a lot more time and effort.

The other issue for me is that with having a boy, the older he gets the the smaller the clothes selection is. The clothes become less cute, and the wear and fading on them is worse. Used newborn and other baby sizes are great, though! So many clothes babies wear once, if it at all.

Yea, I'd say I buy about 80% of E's clothes from the Just between friends sale that happens twice a year. Now that he's getting older, he'll probably end up with more new clothing since kids this age tend to be harder on their clothes, but when he was younger they grow out of the clothes so quickly that it never made sense to buy new when the used ones were just like new.

For A, we have a friend with a daughter that is about year older and we've gotten all her hand me downs!

Yep! I love finding great deals :)

I usually buy higher end clothing brands at consignment shops or through FB groups (tea, Boden) and then resell them when she's done wearing them and usually I'll break even or just spend a couple dollars per item - it's like renting! :) It ends up being cheaper than buying old navy or Circo because those brands have no resell value so I end up just donating or giving it away.

Haven't bought many toys at consignment but only bc I haven't seen many good deals.

We just got a Cozy Coupe for a steal at a local consignment shop. SO GLAD we avoided having to put one of those things together. All of her clothes and toys are used, unless they were gifted. (Or unless I needed something super specific.)

Heck yeah! We have this giant thrift store nearby that is gold. My favorite finds within the past year have been 4 pairs of Toms shoes for dtr (about $2 each, in different sizes), a pair of Sperry's for her, a little rash guard/swim top, and all of her books & toys. We don't buy new because we are cheap, thrifting is fun, and I don't have the buying-new-guilt.

I know some people aren't into buying their kids stuff used, but if you have an aversion I think that local mama groups are a good place to start because you often know people/ will end up swapping or buying with the same people.

I do a little bit.
We have a used swing, high chair, climber, and some clothes.
With three of a kind in the same season I'm really more concerned with longevity. I wasn't whatever I buy to last through three kids. I can usually get gap and old navy for cheaper than I can buy used stuff.
My girls also have ten aunts so I don't have much opportunity to need clothes.

Yes. We have a kids consignment shop a few blocks away, I sell anything I won't keep for a maybe second. Recently I got a PBK anywhere chair and just bought a new cover. So the whole thing was less than $50. Good thing she loves it. We also got a cozy coupe there. I used whatever our credit was and paid $12 I think. They also have lots of carters jeggings for $3 usually.

Um, yes. I don't have a lot of time to dedicate to it, but a lot of the big stuff is either used or it was a gift from someone else. A will wear all of H's hand-me-downs, which also include hand-me-downs from my friends. All of my strollers have been used, including my current double BOB that I got for free from another runner (we switched), H's big girl bed is used that I got on Craigslist, and her dresser is one I picked up at the Restore and refinished.

Errrrrmg yes!! Before LO I never would have imagined but they grow so quickly and some of the second hand stuff is like brand new! I look for good brands and items that are in perfect condition. I've had really good luck at consignment sales and online sale groups. I'm actually trying to figure out what i'll do with DD's wardrobe if #2 is a boy.

Pretty much everything we have is second hand, with the exception of gifts from others. Sometimes I need a specific clothing item or toy and cant fond it used and buy new, but those are pretty few and far between. I know it will be harder as they get older and wear things longer and wear them out, but its so nice right now!

For clothes, toys, books, whatever...do you ever buy things second hand at thrift/consignment shops or garage sales/online FB sale sites

We like to find deals on things, so we do buy used when it makes sense or if we come across something in good condition that we could use. I would say 35% of their stuff is used/hand me down/from the thrift store, but the rest is usually bought on a good sale!

Any recent good finds for your LO??
