@Bao: I never, every throw out food. It kills me to do that! Mayyyybe like an old ear of corn or thoroughly rotten banana every once in a while. Food "best by" and expiration dates are a bunch of BS and we always push the limit. I have never once gotten sick and I've eaten some embarrassingly old, expired food (like eggs and yogurt 2 months over their best by dates lol). I don't mess with stinky meat though ever!!!

Not a ton, I meal plan and really try my best to buy produce that will be used in multiple meals. The only thing I struggle with is lettuce, I'm the only one who eats it and I feel like if I buy a head of romaine, the romaine goes bad before I get through it.

Not a ton, but more than I'd like. I really try to only buy exactly what we have planned to eat but sometimes recipes come out disgusting so we don't eat all the servings, so that gets thrown out.

Not really, we buy produce very deliberately, and sometimes, I use frozen if I know I am going to have a challenging time getting meals on the table.

I also buy frozen mixed berries instead of the fresh ones, I put them in my oatmeal and for that, I don't mind that they're frozen previously.

I keep all bread in the fridge, especially in the warmer months. I throw out a lot less this way.

Guilty here too. I have my produce delivered, its always just a box of random stuff. I LOVE IT. But, when DH is deployed or gone, which is often...I def throw a lot more out.

Buuuuuuut.....its kinda still used. When its starting to show signs its at the end of its life (produce) I cut it up and give it to my ducks and chickens. LOL

Some weeks we do and other weeks we are really good. I hate it though when we waste food. I grocery shop weekly so I menu plan for a week only and try my best to only get us what is needed for the week.

We are terrible about eating lettuce in time, so I just don't buy it very often. Other than that, I try REEEEEAAAALLLLY hard not to throw food away. I started putting stuff in the freezer if I knew I wasn't going to get to it in time and repurposing it- chicken on the bone/carrots/celery/onions go in a bag together for chicken stock, stale bread ends go in another bag and become stuffing, random veggies are frozen and then roasted, mushy fruit goes in smoothies or muffins. DH also doesn't complain if we have leftovers once or twice a week (or he will take them for lunches).

Generally, only produce. We use bread and milk too fast for that to happen.

No. I hate throwing out food. Luckily DH liked leftovers. I buy produce with certain meals in mind and make them in the order the produce will go bad. The only thing we have a hard time finishing before it goes bad is salad or lettuce.

Not a ton. We're pretty good about using stuff up.

For milk, we started buying smaller containers. Until I switched to organic. It usually has a longer shelf life.

Not really. We go through bread and milk too quickly for it to go bad. We keep produce and leftovers on the top shelves and other things in the crisper drawers so we don't forget about the produce and leftovers. But DH is really good about eating leftovers and we just can't really afford to waste much.

DH is 100% in charge of grocery and cooking, and unfortunately yes we do end up throwing out a lot of stuff. I can't really complain though since I'm not the one doing the work! I try to gently remind him of leftovers and what I see that might go bad soon in the fridge.

In general, do you throw out a lot of food? Or are you pretty good about using everything up before it goes bad?

We really need to work on this, I feel like I throw out produce often because it goes bad before I use it. Same with bread and milk. Any tips?
