@prettylizy: oh I LOVE that term!

@maybebaby: that sounds delicious!

A couple nights ago I made a pasta "mash" (as my husband calls it) with leftover barbecued salmon, asparagus, farfalle noodles, homemade pasta sauce (that I just made up a weird recipe for) and parm!

yay for whatchoogot meals!

Yep, last night I made a spanish rice because all I could find was a can of diced tomatoes rice and some random veggies in the fridge. Luckily baby girl like it so we had leftovers for lunch. I like to call those "Watchoogot Dinners" because you make a meal with what you got.

Absolutely. I either make a fritatta a stew or some kind of pasta dish with odds and ends of meat, cheese and veggies. My most recent successful odds and ends meal was melting up some butter and olive oil in a pan, adding some frozen peas, some shredded chicken leftover from a while roast chicken, some whol wheat rotini, homemade chicken broth and some shredded cheddar and spinach. A hearty, cheesy, veggie and chicken packed lunch that was truly satisfying!

DH does, but I look in the fridge/pantry and think there's nothing in there.

Absolutely! Usually pasta w/random veggies/cheeses thrown in or some sort of tex mex casserole--tortillas, black beans, cheese, spices or enchilada sauce and whatever veggies are laying around.

Sometimes. I like trashcan eggs, pasta, or soup. Usually it's more like, "I don't feel like buying 18 random ingredients for this soup recipe so I'll just use the 18 I already have on hand, some of which may or may not be in the actual recipe." As I've grown older, I've started using recipes more as "inspiration" lol

Haha this is pretty standard on how I cook in general. I pretty much always rebel against recipes (except for baking). Last night, I made homemade "mac & cheese" - pasta with cut up ham and an alfredo-y/cheesy sauce using milk, flour, laughing cow cheese, frozen tomato paste & green tobasco. Super random but pretty tasty if I do say so myself ;)

No, that is when we do tuna or PB&J sandwiches. Or DH picks up something on his way home.

That sounds yummy. Way to be economical! I'm okay with throwing together meals, but then there's times it doesn't turn out and I end up ordering pizza so not only did I waste food but bought more :-/
My dad is the best at throwing together ingredients and making ridiculously tasty food.

Uhh that sounds incredible! I usually do this with pasta. I buy some refrigerated buitoni noodles every week and then use whatever is leftover in my fridge to make a dish! I've done a olive oil/pesto/sauteed onion.... a vodka sauce/chunky tomatoes/basil... things like that! It's great for getting rid of about to go bad veggies

This morning for breakfast I scrambled up eggs, portabella mushrooms, leftover taco meat, and shredded mozzarella cheese. I am seriously low on groceries and it was all I could come up with. Surprisingly, it was delicious! Baby liked it too!

Do you ever do this? What are some good combinations you have come up with?
