I think that once you are full term you don't need to time the BH contractions (preterm I think you do because BH can turn into labor). My OB just told me to start timing the real, painful contractions and my marching orders were to go to the hospital when I was 8 mins apart (since I was already 3 cm at 37 weeks).

Good luck!!

A little background: I'll be 37 weeks on Friday. Of DH's four nephews, one came at 30 weeks, two came at 36 weeks, and the last came at 37. Apparently McBebes like to come early, so we're trying to be prepared and on the lookout (because I'm convinced I'm going to be the chick that has her baby in a toilet because I didn't realize I was in labor).

Everything has been very tight and uncomfortable (painful at times) today, regardless of what position I'm in, how much water I've had (a ridiculous amount) or how full my bladder is (I've been peeing ever like 15 minutes or so thanks to all the water). I haven't had sex in a few weeks (sigh), and a warm bath didn't do much. I'd describe the pain as a smile-shaped from hip to hip across my pelvis, usually when I shift, but sometimes when I'm still.

I've been having BH tonight, on a fairly regular basis (every 20 minutes or so). Should I be timing them (for length) as well? At what frequency/length would you call your provider? (Note: The BH aren't painful--they're separate from the smile-shaped pains).

Any advice for a paranoid first-time mom?
