I do not agree at all with the custom. In Canada servers are paid minimum wage regardless (at least where I live) so I don't know why we feel obligated. In the US, servers are not paid minimum wage because I as the customer am suppose to supplement it? - even more stupid.</p> <p>I think people should be paid for doing their job. If your job is "harder" then normal, find something else. I deal with cranky customers all the time, but I don't get tipped. When I worked a concession stand I had people throw food at me... I never got tipped. I don't know why being a waitress would be any worse that the customer needs to top off their regular pay check.</p> <p>I do tip though, I just hate that society makes me feel like I have to. I'm talking about places where you order at the counter, fill your own drinks, and usually clean up after yourself when you leave. The staff brings you the food, but that's about it. Places I consider quick service are Chipotle, Five Guys and Smashburger. </p>
