Only if we're going on a vacation, then we unplug some stuff and turn off power strips.

I thought about it a few times and looked into surge protectors that would reduce or turn off things off to power to devices.

Like this one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0006PUDQK/ref=mw_dp_mpd?pd=1

This would prevent having to keep unplugging and plugging in a lamp if you need to use it.

No... too lazy, everything stays plugged in all the time. Probably a bad habit!

Yep! We try to keep most stuff unplugged when we aren't using it. Like coffee maker, toaster, shredder, etc. We do not unplug our media electronics (tv, dvr, gaming systems) but I bought a power strip that actually cuts the power (most do not) when items are not in use. I actually did a long blog post about the various stuff I did for energy savings and we continue to save a lot of money. http://fifteenminuteplan.wordpress.com/2013/05/06/update-on-project-save-electricity/

We used this little device to see how much voltage all the stuff in our house actually uses and it wasn't enough for us to bother unplugging things. The savings would be minimal compared to the effort of unplugging our stuff all the time.

Do you unplug household items to save money on your electric bill? What specifically do you unplug and what kind of savings do you see?
This is something I have never tried, but we have a million things plugged in!
