Ours is $375 for 17 weeks, so it comes out to be about $22/week, but it doesn't include meat.

I have never done it. I love the idea of it, but I'm not a big vegetable eater, and worry that I would just end up throwing out a lot, rather than learning to eat them. And I haven't done the research to find one in our area.

Ours is 450 for June-October. I usually fill two huge grocery totes each week.

Eta: it is all organic and all local.

Sort of. We use Papa Spuds and I looooooove it. We get to pick our order and can have it delivered weekly, or not. We usually do every other week, and you basically pay a la cart.

@deerylou: I meal plan like that too but now I've been looking in my fridge to see what produce we have and try to base meals around that. I love trying new recipes too!

The CSA emails the list out the day before and I can go to the grocery store to supplement and buy our regular produce.

@edelweiss: I think this is where I would slip up with a CSA box, as well. We meal plan, and shop based on that. It would get tricky, and I would hate to waste produce.

Yes, I love it - ours starts next week and runs through December. It's about $15/week. Totally worth it.

we considered it many times, but ultimately decided against it because i'm not good at spontaneous cooking (i usually look at recipes first and then go shopping for ingredients, as opposed to vice versa) and i knew we'd have to throw away a lot of produce. it's such a great idea though!

I'm also in California, where the produce is wonderful. We have been interested in a CSA box for what seems like forever, now.

We live right near a local farmer's market, and tend to stroll by every Sunday for a quick shop. However, it would be nice to get a good variety of produce each week, especially if it encourages us to try new things. We love hunting for unique recipes.

I should mention that I live in CA and we get really good produce. My favorite is the summer when I get several pounds of organic tomatoes in each box.

We have one through a local organic farmer. We did a fall share which was my favorite thus far: we got one huge box a month for four months and it contained tons of fall seasonal produce. We got SO much squash we JUST ran out! It came to about $20/week , but we paid a lump sum in the beginning. We also bought a winter frozen share and I wasn't as pleased with that one. And now we're getting a summer mini share, it will be a delivery once a week of seasonal vegetables - I'm so excited! We got a major discount for being return customers but normal price is also about $20/week.

We just signed up for ours! I think it was about $25 a week for 15 lbs or organic produce. Can't wait to pick it up and see what we get each week!

I love my CSA. It's $16/box and in the last box I got spinach, greens, beets, oranges, leeks, asparagus and popcorn. It's all organic and some weeks are more plentiful than others. I like that we get a variety and that it forces my family to eat produce that we wouldn't normally buy.

We did in the past, I believe it was $22 a week for a half share of organic produce. We typically received about 5-6 different things-- a bunch of some type of greens (chard/kale usually), squash (2-3), an herb, potatoes (3-4), tomatoes (4-5), tomatillos (4-5), peppers (3-4), melons (just 1).

To be honest our CSA was a bit of a bust, they wound up going belly up half way through the summer. Turned out there were warning signs there so we should have actually done things like visit the farm, talk to former participants etc.
