I did it last summer and LOVED IT! It was through work, so I just picked it up every Monday (or whatever day, I forget) in the office.

I'm at a different job now, and so bummed I don't have that convenience anymore :(

It was a great way to get me to try new foods!

We did it for the first 3 summers we lived together and it was about $40/week. But once we moved, we stopped - for two reasons:
(1) I started getting annoyed at the quality and selection of the produce. We had a couple of bad bug summers and I was sick of getting soft, bug-eaten tomatoes.
(2) our new house had a FM a block away, so now I just budget the same amount for the FM each week.

Oo b/c of this thread I just went and looked up one close to me! It's about $45 a week too. How much do you get? I feel like I'd rather just go there and pick up what I want?

We have been members of like 3 different csas over the past 5 years or so and we love it! It helps the farmers so much to get the capital in advance, and we get to try veggies we might not otherwise try, like we never had garlic scapes until they were in our weekly bag. We still supplement at the grocery store or farmers market sometimes though

We used to and had a bad experience but we found Door to Door organics last summer and now we use them and love them. It is all local during the growing season and then they switch to organic produce from all over during the winter or you can discontinue until spring. They are available in lots of locations and I think we pay $24 for a box every other week for two people and it is delivered.

@mrs. wagon: a tip our CSA gave us is current shareholders get sign up priority. The one we signed up for is in high demand and usually sells out before it opens to the general public. So her tip was to sign up for the winter share so that when summer share sign up rolls around you're already in! ;)

I always toy with the idea but never bite the bullet because I'd still have ti shop so why not just buy exactly what produce I want? We have a ton of local farms and farmers markets so I think I prefer to do that so I can meal plan.

We are on the waiting list for a really good one near us! But if we don't get off the wait list by the time summer hits we will probably sign up with a different one.

We used to be opted to discontinue it last winter. Instead we just plan to go to the farmers market. We really loved it and it was awesome the first season. But the crops were the same year after year. We thought going to the market this farmer goes to we'll still be able to support our local farmers and get more variety.

@Bao: CSA is short for community shared agriculture (I'm pretty sure anyhow). Ours costs $43/week and supplies a family of 4. There is an all organic one locally too but it's way more expensive and they don't deliver.
