@Corduroy: That sounds like a great deal! @mediagirl: that's how I feel! I'm just done and don't feel we are getting anything for how much we are paying.

Thanks everyone for the input. We are going to to track our data usage the next 3 months and see if it's doable to do the straight talk deal.

I'm going to be looking into this once my plan with Sprint is up. We are DONE with big corporations and their stupid 2 year contracts and all the BS that come with them.

My husband has one through Cricket wireless. We pay $35/month for unlimited text/talk and 1GB of data. They use AT&T towers, so the service isn't any different from my regular At&T plan (I'm still on my family plan, haha). I'm pretty sure you can use any AT&T phone. He doesn't really care about brands or anything, so we got a $50 smart phone, which was eligible for a $50 rebate, so it wound up being free.

Like @PinkElephant: all his heavy data usage is at home, anyways, on WiFi, so the 1gb limit hasn't really been too restrictive.

I have heard that Straight Talk can save you a lot of money but I think only certain phones work. Not sure about that though.

My husband and I were with at&t and pay about 150 a month together. We've been with them for a number of years and grandfathered in a plan that is not offered anymore including unlimited data and talk. But sprint is having a promotion for at&t and verizon customers where they'll cut your current phone bill in half offering unlimited data/text/talk. It's only been less than a week since we switched so I haven't gotten a good feel of how their network is yet. I haven't experience any major issues so far. I work from home so I mostly use wifi though.

I've never had a cell phone contract. I currently pay $35 a month for unlimited data & text and 300 talk minutes. I really don't talk much so the plan works well for me. I use a lot of data and navigate at least two hours a day on my commute. I'm with Virgin.

I used to save quite a bit of money with a pay as you go phone, but for all of the things you listed using yours for, I doubt that you would simply because of the mass amount of data it sounds like you're using. Other than calls and texts, the only things I did were FB, checking my e-mail, and occasionally web surfing. But if you're looking to stream TV shows and music on the go, you're going to end up spending a TON of money to keep up with that.

@PinkElephant: I do the same, sort of. I use my smartphone as a tablet at home on my WiFi.

Do you use data while you're out and about or on WiFi? I'm using a pay as you go plan with AT&T - $45/month gets you unlimited minutes and texting and 1G of data, which is usually enough for me. My heavy data usage (music, youtube, Internet, etc) is done at home so durant "count" since I'm on wifi. My husband commutes and blows through that data really quickly though, so he has a contract plan instead since data above the allotment got expensive. We both use iPhone 5S (if that matters).

I just got judged off the hotmail thread for my flip phone, haha! It was $5, and I get 1500 texts and 1500 minutes for $30 a month. Works for me! It is virgin mobile from target. PayLo? I believe?

We have a data plan with Verizon, and it runs us $140 a month. We have unlimited data usage and we use our phones for everything.

I have a friend that bought a pay as you go phone and loves it and says she saves a ton of money. Does anybody on here use one and can attest to how much it saves, if you use it to internet surf, listen to music, TV shows, GPS, etc.? If it is a significant savings, I am very interested!
