I love planners so much, and have definitely purchased many different beautiful ones over the years, but ultimately this is always me:

No, but I use a notebook system to keep track of lists.

Appointments are all digital.

I am the "if it's not written down, it doesn't exist" person, so paper planners are a must for me. Right now I'm using an Inkwell bound planner, which I love. I do keep my calendar on my phone for appointment reminders, but to-do lists and notes for work and personal stuff all go into the planner.

@Cole: Ok, thanks! And it's literally blank, right, like no dates so you can't go in and write down future appointments? Or did you make calendar pages yourself? Maybe I should just watch the video :)

Yes, I have been using a planner for a few years. It's helpful for work and keeping up with DH's out of town schedule. I used to one that you attach in a 3-hole binder. But, now I have a pretty purple moleskin. I picked a color that can stand out in a sea of black.

@HappyBaker: I use a similar app To Doist. It's the app that my husband and I agree on. He likes it for around the house tasks that have definite end date. Our appointments go on Google calendar.

@808love: I'm definitely hit or miss with it, some weeks it's crucial to making it through the week, other weeks I barely check it! I kind of like that element though, I always felt guilty when my planner had empty pages.

@Cole: I used a bullet journal last year. Ended up just using it as a regular notebook and the planner never took off beyond lists, though I tried 'the method'.

For years I have used Google cal consistently. I have a color and DH and I share another color for things that we both need to know about. It also goes to my phone and I can tell Siri to enter it so it is very handy.

I just use a 12 month planner book. It's the only way I can keep track of our crazy amount of appointments. I don't follow through on daily or weekly, so if I have the full month to look at and a handful of notes pages, I'm happy and organized.

@wrkbrk: most people do but I know that some people skip it. The index is to keep track of random lists you might have included, so if you started a Christmas card list for example and wanted to refer to it from time to time you'd be able to find it since your index would tell you what page it's on. The video by the guy who started it explains it really well and then there's a whole rabbit hole of people who make their journals into these beautiful pieces of art. Ultimately though it's a pretty straightforward idea.

I got a Plum Paper planner in October. I love it. I use it for everything--I got the vertical layout, draw a line down each week and use half for work, half for personal. I literally put everything in the planner: pulling credit reports 3x year, making well-child visit appointments, replace furnace filters, all sorts of random crap. I find it really helps me to get it out of my head. It also satisfies my obsessiveness with list-making

I was super into bullet journals for a few months this year, but in the end went back to my to do list app on my phone - Wunderlist. There are just so many times I wouldn't have the paper planner with me and would then forget to write stuff down / add to it. Having it on my phone means its always with me and up to date.

I recently started a bullet journal which is basically a planner in a blank book using a small but specific set of guidelines and it's awesome. It's evening I've ever wanted in a planner. I'm a big list maker and want lots of room to flesh out ideas and this supports that so well.

I've been debating getting a planner, but I'm wondering if I would get into the habit of actually using it consistently. I currently just put appointments into my phone, and reminders get thrown on random pieces of paper.

Do you use a planner? Why or why not?
