I would do two day rewards at first, to reinforce how rewards work! Simple rewards that the kids love have worked best for us, like a two minute video or a piece of gum.

Bumping this up, we just started formally doing a reward chart this weekend. I have the Melissa and Doug one, with the magnets, and my son seems to be interested in earning them.

We chose things to work on for this week that he can be successful with, because I want him to get the understanding that he can complete the items and earn the "job done" magnet, but we'll change it up next week.

Problem is I am having trouble coming up with rewards. The board has space for about 7 tasks for the week. Should I do a daily reward, or weekly, or what? What can I even give this kid as a reward? I am kind of stumped!

We did for a while, but she lost interest. We switched to a piggy bank and she enjoys getting coins ... for now! She likes arts and crafts so she usually gets something along those lines for a reward.

We have a sticker chart for a few things, though I have slacked lately. I usually ask LO what he wants for a reward. He has picked a trip to get ice cream and a trip to the toy store. Other things we've talked about include mostly outings.

@T-Mom: we tried special outings as rewards, but alas screentime has more of an allure. they don't get any during the week so i don't mind accruing it for the weekend.

So far my DD has earned toys. We have slacked off too but her behavior has gotten much better, too. Maybe a special trip somewhere that he likes to go. I think my DD would love a trip to the paint your own pottery studio, or something like that. Or special mommy and me date.

I'm going to reinstitute our reward chart starting from tomorrow. We slacked off on it. In the past Charlie earned toys, but I don't want to bring any more toys into our apartment so I'm going to have him earn screen time. For instance when he cleans up his toys, he'll get a sticker. 5 stickers = 1 show.

I also plan on getting him a piggy bank so he can buy his own small treats (no candy but yes ice cream). Maybe he gets a coin or a sticker - his choice?

What type of rewards do you give your LO? How do they earn them?
