We use a cpa. I think it's $400 for personal (but it's complicated for a variety of reasons) and $350 for business. We have been using her since 2005.

We use an accountant and she is expensive! :-( It was $600 last year and will likely be around the same this year. Our taxes are pretty complicated though.

We did it ourselves this past year, but that will be the last time.

I am self-employed and making more money and things are just getting way too complicated (it's 1099 income). Also, we will likely have a rental next year as we plan on renting out our house at buying again.

We use a CPA and spend around $500 to have them done. I don't know if ours are very complicated, but I sure as heck don't understand them.

I use HR Block.com I do not have complicated taxes. I think DH and I filing jointly we paid about $65 for state and federal.

In the past, we hired an accountant who was around $275-$300 to prepare our state and federal returns.

We only did that for a couple of years – honestly, we don’t have anything that can’t be determined by Turbotax. We have 1099 income and a rental property (and own our primary home too) so things are a little more complicated than TurboTax standard edition, but that isn’t that weird and Turbotax walks you through everything and has various editions for different circumstances.

FWIW, I don’t find that hiring an accountant saves time, if that’s your primary goal. You still have to gather together all the information and paperwork, so the only time I saved going with an accountant was the couple of hours it takes me to enter in everything. But some of that “saved time” time was eaten into by having to drive to his office, drop off the paperwork, etc. I totally get hiring an accountant for other reasons, but I personally wouldn’t do it just to save time.

We use H&R Block, but a specific lady who has been nothing but a blessing to us. We would follow her if she left, she was able to get us thousands of dollars back when the IRS said we owed thousands (due to farming stuff that our old accountant messed up.) We pay around 140 I think for pretty standard itemized forms.

I always used turbotax in the past, costs $75 or so (we have often had to file multiple states too) - I think it's really easy if your taxes are pretty simple.
this year we're paying someone for the first time, a CPA recommended to us, because DH got a relocation package and I need help doing that in the best way possible deduction wise. it's going to be a few hundred bucks, but well worth it this year (we also have a new baby).

We use a local accountant who works for herself. It costs us $600, which is an hourly rate. Our taxes are pretty complicated though because of my weird previous job situation. (She has to prepare federal, state, and local tax returns for my husband and I, with two Schedule Cs and a lot of business deductions, plus estimated quarterly taxes).

We have a private tax preparer for the first time this year, I've always done them myself on Turbo tax in the past. It cost $150 which I think was very reasonable, for both federal and state. I work with a nurse who recommended this lady to me and the nurse had told me $75, I'm assuming it was more for us because we make more money. I did go through and enter most of our info on turbo tax (very quickly, not as detail oriented as I would if I were doing it for real) and got roughly the same numbers so I don't know if it was worth it.

I use a CPA. It was about $150 I think?

I used to use H&R Block but when DH and I got engaged, he had his CPA look over my past returns and they found stuff that was missed. I also like it that the CPA allows us to "proof" our taxes and compares each line to the previous year so that it's easier to see if we forgot something that we usually include. It's worth it to us.

We use an accountant we found years ago. The first year we filed with him, he refiled three years of taxes for free and got us an additional thousand dollars from the three previous years alone. I didn't even know you could do that. So even though his rate has risen (and goes up depending on the number of forms we have each year, and we have a lot) we still faithfully use him because we know he'll work really hard to get us every cent possible.

I'm not sure we're going to have time to do our taxes ourselves this year. If you use a tax service or company, who/what do you use and do you mind sharing what it costs you to use them? Also feel free to share if it is a percentage, if you don't feel comfortable sharing total cost if it's based on income.
