We got a video monitor given to us, but it has to be hooked up to a TV so we also have a regular monitor. The video one is hooked up to our only TV which is in the living room on the main floor. It'll be nice when the hubs is still up and I've gone to bed so he can watch Cameron and let me sleep a little longer.

The family I nannied for used the older model of this
http://www.summerinfant.com/Products/Monitoring/Video-Monitors/Day-Night®-Flat-Screen-Color-Video-Monitor.aspx

It was a life saver. They bought it for the older one the day she escaped her crib and it's still in her room to keep an eye on her. Still works great over 2 years later.

Funnily enough they never switched it to their new baby's room. We definitely plan to register for one!

I have the angel care and after 2 false alarms I took it out. I got so freaked out that I couldn't leave the room while she was sleeping for a week after each incident. I never used it for my son.

Hmm, I read articles that said video monitor wasn't necessary. I was looking at the Angelcare one with the pad and I thought that was a good idea.

My husband was diagnosed with asthma at 6 month old. His mother found him not breathing and blue. I'm really afraid of that.

I thought the Angelcare one would be good but now that I think of it, would the motion sensor detect any breathing issues? If our child has asthma, our child maybe moving just not breathing.

Now the video monitor sounds like a better idea.

yes! Its a 100% necessity for us since Liv is a noisy sleeper and typically a quiet waker-upper (you get my gist.) We have the Summer Infant BabyTouch monitor and LOVE it. Its our second video monitor, we didnt like the first one (anotehr SI model, dont remember the na,me. It had a stationary screen, which sucked, and the reception was terrible.) We use it in conjunction with our AngelCare motion sensor. I need them both for peace of mind

We had the summer infant day night handheld but that died after 2 years bought a new version and then that one started to loose visual only the audio was working after a 6 months, when baby 2 arrived I bought the summer infant digital color handheld and that worked till he was 17 months and it wouldn't charge anymore. So now I just bought the Levena 501 with 2 cameras so I can have one in each room and only one handheld. I'm not sure what my opinion is yet, it by far has the best night vision of any of the camera's i owned but I've only had it up and running for 5 days now.

No video monitor or audio one for us. People give us a strange look when we tell them we don't have one. My LO's nursery is at the top of the stairs and right across from our room. I can hear him from anywhere in the house except for the garage.

I will admit that it was difficult not having a monitor when we were sleep training. He would constantly bump his head against the side of the crib. Now he can roll over from both sides and knows how to correct himself.

I like the idea and I think we'll use it more and more, especially as she becomes more mobile but right now we haven't used it too much. I like it because it lets me check on her from afar and she has super mommy senses and will stir sometimes if I come too close, so it's a good way to ease my paranoia without disturbing her.

We have the Lorex and only used it when trying to sleep train E. We like that you can cut to all the different cameras (we have two) and also speak through the camera.

Yes! I don't know how we could live without one either. It has been so helpful to know about our daughter's sleep habits and has also saved us countless unnecessary trips into her room. We have this system:

http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infant-Complete-Coverage-Handheld/dp/B001N44UVW/ref=sr_1_7?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1320321049&sr=1-7

However, it doesn't work all that well in our house. It gets a lot of interference from our 1 million wireless devices I guess so we can never have the volume on because it is just static. But my friend has the same system in her apartment with no issues.

We have this, we chose it because the video portion is handheld. We didn't want one of those big TV like monitors that have to stay in one place.

Thought about it but in the end, we just went with an audio monitor. Occasionally, when I hear all sorts of babbling on the monitor, I'd wonder what she's doing but most of the time the audio is sufficient :)

Our video monitor's #2 on our must have baby list. #1 is the car seat.
We actually bought a cheap one.. but it's awesome.
The monitor's huge (mini tv) but it's built like a rock.

Yesss!! probably our #1 most used baby product. We have the summer infant day to night (not the digital one) and it's been great, but the battery is starting to die and the sound goes out sometimes. My bro and sis-in-law have the same one but 3 years older, and theirs only works plugged in and the sound is VERY bad (if you touch it the sound stops working) so they have it plugged in at a certain place and never touch it. so I'm thinking with the next baby I'll buy the same brand but one with two monitors (one screen, one handset) and that way we can have one kid on each channel, and the screen by our bed and the handset downstairs. Hopefully those will last til our kids are grown.

A video monitor was one of the things I couldn't live without when Charlie was a baby. It was essential during sleep training, and for me to check to see that he was breathing!

I've been through three different video monitors (they sucked or broke down), and just purchased my 4th one today. I'm creating a guide to video monitors and would love to hear... do you use a video monitor? Do you have one that you actually love?
