My parents rarely used a microwave (only to defrost), and I just went along with it. After a few years I got weary of microwaving any kind of plastic, saran wrap included. So in it goes. It keeps the moisture or steam in. Haven't thought about the safety and plastic part of it though. I guess I would think it was made out of food safe plastic. I have no idea though. I usually grab a napkin to cover foods in the microwave. Easier to grab than saran wrap that I need to grab from the drawer and use the blade on the box.
