Same spoon, but rinsed off. Unless the food is boiling, i'd rather not have saliva start the digestive process. Doesn't saliva promote bacterial growth?

If it's just us, I do, but if we are cooking for guests, I use the other end of the spoon (like the handle side) and only taste once. I saw it on Food Network once! It saves dishes, which I absolutely hate. If I need to taste more than once, I will use a plastic utensil!

Yeah I don't bother with that kind of stuff. We rarely have company anyways so it is the kind of thing that doesn't even cross my radar.

I always use the same spoon. I also occasionally share utensils with the baby. Meaning, I will offer something off my plate if she wants it and it gets her to try something new. Her parents are all about building a strong immune system, so bring on the germs!

yeah, I do. but I only taste once, MAYBE twice, right at the end of cooking.

I also suck on LOs dummy before I give it back to him after he drops it on the ground, so I'm not sure how much weight my opinion has ;)

Another "if it's just the two of us" then I use the same spoon. If I'm cooking for anyone else, I have a dedicated set of tasting spoons. I never taste from cooking spoons even if it's just the two of us.

If I'm just cooking for me and my husband, I use the same spoon. If we have guests, I try to get a clean spoon but it doesn't always happen. If I'm sick, my husband does the tasting. Don't want to spread the sticky germs.

@Mrs. Bee; from what I've heard, it might be a slightly lost cause.
;) See: http://www.nbcnews.com/id/35989527/ns/health-oral_health/t/moms-kiss-can-spread-cavities-baby/ (and there are also several other sources). It is typically the s. mutans bacteria that colonize and can cause caries. I was trying to research a "kill" temperature, and was so far only able to locate abstracts referring to the temperatures conducive to its reproduction (a fairly narrow range, interestingly enough).

I just wash it in between. Especially if I'm cooking something like chicken - I'll turn over the rawish chicken, then wash the fork and get a new one for when it's cooked through.

i know this sounds crazy, but i usually don't taste while i cook..... sometimes i'll take one taste near the end of cooking to check for saltiness, but then i just use the spoon i'm going to eat with later and just use it once.

i've definitely had the problem of over or under seasoning my food from time to time!!!

ummm i've also been known to just stick my pinky into the food to taste :p

If it's just for DH and me, yes, I do. If I'm cooking for other people I try to be more careful, but... if it's still cooking and killing germs I might not be THAT careful.

So you change spoons every time even when it's still cooking (like, if you were cooking broth or soup that would simmer a while longer) when it's just for you and the kids? Why is it such a problem?

(No LO yet and I really am curious!)
