i would start waking a bit earlier because a 10 pm bedtime would not be good for me! ha. and also, seems like your other LO wants to get out, so it might be time to get back on a routine!

Normally I work my day around his sleep. We've got such a good thing going I don't want to mess it up. However with things like work, appointments, and such, I'll wake him because I have to. Otherwise I leave him be!

If we really need to be somewhere for a specific time, then yes I wake him. Otherwise it seems like a waste of all the energy we put into trying to get him to sleep in the first place!! :)

I had to wake baby up for daycare, but i think in this case, it's more of a "get baby to bed earlier" situation and adjust it from that angle.

I would be working to move both bedtime and wakeup earlier, 15 min at a time. If Lo #1 is up at 7 and LO #2 isn't up until 10:30, it would be really hard to do anything as a family. One would always be sleeping when the other is up. Plus, you hardly have any time to sleep yourself, never mind having any free time.

I didn't vote because I definitely believe in never waking a sleeping baby. But I don't think you always get to follow best laid plans with a second baby. There's no lasting harm in trying it for a week or two and then going back to how it is now...

My DD is a late riser, but not unreasonably so because she goes to bed at 7:30.

Honestly, I'd move her bedtime earlier and wake her up in the morning. We did the international move last year with a 2 year old, so I feel you on that one. It's brutal.

I don't. But then again my 1st woke up around 5am at that age. Little brother sleeps later so I'm happy about that. I guess my fear would be that then it would lead to super early wake ups. I tend to just follow their natural rhythm. But I probably would wake up if it was passed 8 or so.

It depends on what we have planned for the day. My kids adjust fairly well & are use to a 12 hrs routine. They usually wake up between 730-8 & are in bed around the same time. If I need to get them up at 630 to take DH to work they will go to bed at 630. We keep our same routine during the day so every 5 hours they eat a big meal & if they need it small snacks between. If they are really tired & sleep in (which is rare) I make sure to get them up by 9 am. I do NOT want my kids up past 830.. it wears on me lol.

@PinkElephant: totally understandable :) I am "team do what works for your fam" :) It just sounds like right now the sleeping all morning isn't working for you. If she is staying up that late, I wouldn't wake her...but it sounds like it could be an ongoing problem for you guys that may take some intentional moving around.

I enrolled my oldest in preschool at 2.5 and he was almost 3 when his little brother was born. So after everyone left and my husband went back to work it was just me. My routine was to get up early before everyone, get ready, then wake my oldest and get him ready for school and then wake the baby last, nurse him, and off we go! If we were to go out, then I would just take him and let him nap on the go. It helped him not only sleep at home but out as well. We took both boys out a lot as babies to get them used to being able to sleep outside. It can still be tough, but if he can get an hour of his morning nap I'll be happy. I don't have to think about that now as my youngest is almost 3! Yikes!

I do in the mornings.....if we don't have a schedule (like over the christmas break), she ends up all over the place. So i try not to let her sleep in too much on weekends unless she's sick. she's up by 7 Mon-Fri, though. When bedtime and wake up is consistent, the rest of the day (naps including) goes smoother. So at that age, i would

@Illumina: She goes down for the night around 10:30/11, but she has a few power naps right before that - usually about 40 minutes around 7/7:30 and again around 9:30/10, with feeds after both.

@TwoDogHouse: True! I'll take this over 5:30 AM wakings any day. My older child was never an early riser either...if we ever have another baby who wakes up early, it's going to be painful for me!

@Mrs. Lion: Yes...we've been kind of lazy about that! :) We did a huge international move this year so didn't make a big thing out of scheduling since our schedule (and location) was changing from month to month. Now that we're settled in our new home and the holidays are behind us, it's probably time! Go-with-the-flow scheduling for the first year of DD#1's life worked really well for us, but there's less need for flexibility and more need for routine with two, isn't there?!

I wake my baby up all the time. I always have. Not in the mornings because she wakes up before we do, but she also goes to bed early (she usually falls asleep between 8 and 8:30 and she wakes up around 630, give or take). But for naps? I wake her up often. I'm pretty strict on her feeding schedule because she is a tricky eater and if she eats one meal late she is likely to not eat the next one (she needs 4 hours between meals so we don't have much wiggle room). So she sometimes tries to have long naps but then they run into when she should be eating and that just f's our whole day up. So yea. I wake that kid up if it is going to mess with our schedule.

My 8 month old is a teenager in training. She goes to bed when we do and therefore wants to sleep in in the morning. Right now my two year old and I are twiddling our thumbs waiting to go to the library/park because baby sis is still sleeping soundly. I'm debating whether I need to start waking her up in the mornings to get her more on "our" schedule, but am not at all convinced that this will bring her bedtime earlier - I think it'll just make her grouchy. Plus, I kind of like having alone time with her at night anyhow! The joy on her face at having all the toys to herself is pretty cute!

So....do you follow the old adage "never wake a sleeping baby"? Or do you get your lazy-bones baby out of bed?
