Always for poop. I don't think I can sleep if I know she's sitting in a poopy diaper!

@Mrs. Jacks; You stole my answer! ;) Lorelei had a pretty copacetic pooping schedule (still does), so after the first couple of weeks she never pooped "in the night." @Lozza did have a good routine, sounded like.

Thank goodness those days are behind us, but yes, always for #2. Of course I considered not changing several times, but I would feel guilty about my babies sleeping in poopy diapers.

@rahlyrah: @grizz: He always poops while eating, without fail! Then when we go to change him, he will poop and pee mid diaper change. I wonder if he gains anything... it just runs right through him!

@Pepper: @grizz: Do your boys poop frequently while BFing? It never fails, the moment he latches on to the boob, instant explosion. How does this kid gain any weight? All he does is poop!

@rahlyrah: I just searched for this exact topic to see if it had been posted before I asked! I could have written your post! He's 10 days old and is the noisiest pooper. I feel bad waking him to change him if he is sound asleep, but I am scared of diaper rash too.

In that situation, yes. Whenever I fed LO, i would feed from one side, prop her up and burp her and wait until she pooped, changed her and then feed again from other side. By that time she fell asleep.

@NovBaby1112: That's what we did- LO would often wake up and nurse a little bit, but he'd doze off before he'd fill up, so we'd change his diaper to wake him back up a bit, and usually he'd pooped during feeding part I, so we could then do feeding part II and then let him sleep.

we always changed her as soon as we heard her go #2....i would just feel way too bad if i left her in it just because she was sleeping! it does suck though when they are finally asleep and then they go! as he gets older he will not poop as much :) what i would do is nurse on 1 side, then change diaper, then nurse on the other and HOPE that she got it all out of her system lol

Yikes, that sucks! We always try to change a poopy diaper right away, though if it's just pee, we won't wake him to change it. Though with Xander, he wasn't super noisy in the beginning, so I didn't always know he went #2. We were changing his diaper every 2 hours anyway (we changed it every time he ate), so that was probably often enough. Maybe just load your LO up with diaper cream to protect his butt and let him sleep?

B hates having his diaper changed. HATES it. He is still a newborn (11 days) so he poops approximately 374, 286 times a day. At night, it never fails that by the time I get him swaddled, fed, and drifting off to blissful baby sleep he unloads his body weight in poop into his diaper. It seriously feels like someone is shooting poop into his diaper using a triple barreled super soaker gun.

So far, I have been changing his dipe every time I hear him go #2. However, it wakes him up and we are back to square one in trying to get him to sleep. By the time I get him back to sleep, it is time to unload another diaper! Mommy and baby both need some sleep!

What did/do you do with your newborn? Do you just let him lie in his poo until he wakes himself up? Or do you change him/her immediately once you know he went potty?
