I just recently watched YouTube videos of vaginal delivery with an epidural (you know...to see if it's less violent) and I was pretty traumatized. So I'm thinking if DH sees that, we'll never get to conceive another child bc that's the only thing he'll ever associate with my Lady Bits.

I actually asked him after reading this thread and he said,"I don't even know what I think about that..." Lol

No and no-- but when push came to shove (hardy har), we both wanted to see and be present. Sucks though, just as we were getting close--me pushing and him holding my leg--they whisked me away for a c-section. We were both really bummed.

I was totally fine with it and expected it, he helped hold my leg and was my biggest support during the birth process. We are a team, I don't have anything to hide from him after what got us into the pregnancy in the first place!

He is a vet, so he has seen far worse things. That being said, we weren't sure how it would effect him since his uncle passed out at his childrens' births, and he is a vet too.

I think it helped him understand just how great the stresses on my body were. I didn't feel that he would see me with any significant difference afterwards either (other than my supreme awesomeness of squeezing out a 6lb 11oz watermelon). I did feel bad about how stressed he was over my discomfort at first, but then I was too busy concentrating on squeezing that gigantic baby out to care about any modesty with anyone present.

I didn't really think about that. He said it was a bit traumatizing (mostly because the baby's head looks so weird coming out) but maybe that helped him be more understanding when I said "no touchy!" for ten weeks.

He saw.... but he's a nurse so nothing really would be too graphic for him. The second time around (seeing I went med-free) I held his hand and squeezed the hell out of it, so he wasn't anywhere below my waist!

I really don't want him down there if i can help it, although i do think he should cut the cord. we did have a little visit to the er and labor and delivery for a false alarm recently and he was so good at dealing with me getting speculumed and swabbed in his birdseye view so i am feeling less concerned that if things dont go to plan he will totally flip out. i am also planning a water birth so if all goes well things will hopefully not be quite as graphic or in your face when they happen too. we shall see.

We were both expecting that DH would stay by my head with DD, but he ended up watching her birth, and he said it was incredible. I had to have my placenta manually removed with DS, and he watched the whole thing, after watching DS's birth; I'm relatively certain there is nothing that could happen that would rival that, and he still feels the same way about me, so...

All through the pregnancy I kept telling dh he could stay by my head. That went out the window as soon as I started pushing. The nurse told him to hold a leg and he couldn't say no. He ended up seeing everything and is a little scarred by it.

i dont think i would care either way.....however i think DH wants to stay by my head and away from "down there", lol. Which i think i will appreciate because i like the idea of holding his hand if needed and just having him to look at me and be supportive that way thru eye contact i guess.

I'm really surprised about how many people didn't want DH to look!

@sorrycharlie: hahaha! I do think it makes DH more sympathetic about what I've been through.

I had a 'go with the flow' birth plan, and I felt the same way about DH looking: see what feels right.

He was holding one of my legs for the 2 hours of pushing and saw everything and I am glad because he could tell me about it at the time and later. I found the 'updates' and the comments about the progress and that I was 'doing a good job' from both DH and the nurses to be really motivating during pushing. Also, I had him look at my stitches during recovery days after I came home from the hospital.

I didn't have a preference. I honestly don't understand the big deal. I guess it never entered my mind that my husband would be bothered/grossed out/disturbed by watching me bring our child into the world.
In the end, he stood at about waist level. He was able to hold my hand and look down and see everything that was happening.

@mediagirl: @mrs. wagon: I opted for pictures, because when you're in labor it's hard to think about what's going on. I liked being able to look at the pictures a week or so later and know what it was like/looked like. It was interesting for me.

I totally didn't care what my husband did. He ended up having to hold one leg and I think he liked watching, he got excited when he could see the baby's head! He didn't think it was gross or get turned off. But I wasn't really even thinking about that.

I told my DH that I didn't want him down there, and he agreed he would stay up by my head but that he did want to cut the cord. Well, when delivery came he basically watched the whole entire time I was pushing...he was simply fascinated and thought it was amazing....I was definitely not in the mood to care if he looked anyway.

Now that it is all over with he said he finds me much sexier and can't believe how "strong" my body is. Who woulda thought?

I had a c-section and DH watched that. But if I had ever wanted a vaginal delivery, Id be fine with him being down there. Ive been front and center for a birth (my best friend's..i coulda caught the baby) and it was absolutely incredible. I asked him if he would have wanted to be down there if I had ever wanted a natural birth and he said yes.

During he was super involved! As involved as the nurse, we were shocked just how involved he was but at the end of it we lOved that he was such a big part of her delivery.

And honestly he thought it was amazing and I'm kinda jealous at that point the mirror wasn't there and I didn't get to see!

I don't mind either way. If he wants to look, then that's fine. He's told me though he doesn't want to see since some of his buddies recommended against watching. I kind of want him to watch though, but I'm the type that would probably want the mirror. We'll see when the time comes.
