I never thought about it. I do iron the wrinkles out of them though.

@mrs. bird: @MrsCB: I've never washed them before. I'm trying to turn over a new grown up leaf, at least in the baby's room. The curtains in the bedroom came with the apartment and I have no intention of taking those down to wash them or any such thing :)

I was going to but then my husband thought I was crazy, so we just hung them up. Months later there are still creases from where they were folded in the package so I wish I had at least ironed them! I'm too lazy to take them down and do it now though.

I've washed ones that are machine washable, yes. And ironed them. I am crazy like that...can't stand the square fold marks.

i guess i'm super grimy- i've never washed a curtain! i iron new ones if they need to be, then hang. i use the vacuum to clean them if they look dusty or the cat gets fur on them. i'm a terrible housekeeper!

@Anagram: True-- but at the time, the only laundromat nearby was a humungous pain in every way-- bad hours, always crowded and full, expensive, plus bad attitudes from the people who worked there.

Now we have our own washer dryer, so there is no excuse, other than that the curtains I just bought say don't machine dry them, so I think I'll just hang them up on the curtain rode to dry them.

ETA: but we did do that for some used table cloths I bought from a bride on WB to use for my sister's baby shower-- after my mom spent ages ironing the first couple.

@Bookworm: @Foodnerd81: don't iron! Just toss them in the dryer with a damp towel for 20-30 minutes. That's the TRUE lazy way.

I also did that with all my wedding tablecloths and chair ties. I knew there was NO WAY I was ironing 150 chair ties and 15 table cloths.

@Bookworm: Yeah, I have had curtains hang in an apartment the entire time I lived in it with the wrinkles from the package it came in. Whatever :) My mom always shook her head any time she came over.

But this is for the baby's room and I clearly care more about how that room looks (for a baby who has no clue if there are curtains or garbage bags blocking the light) than I did for myself.

@Foodnerd81: hahaha I did exactly that with the curtains I bought for our house... and a year later, stupid gravity has not worked. I keep meaning to take the darn things down and iron them....but I'm lazy :p

I do because if I ever need to wash them in the future, and they shrink, they'll look silly if they're not the right length. I use a little detergent - not sure why, I guess out of habit.

I swear I really am an adult. But, I'm a lazy adult. So... when you buy new curtains or things like that, do you pre-wash them before hanging? If so, do you use detergent or just put them through with no soap, since they aren't technically 'dirty'?

I'm adding some trim to some Ikea curtains I bought so I think In need to wash first in case they shrink, right?

My usual is to just hang things straight out of the package, wrinkles and all, and wait for gravity to pull them out.
