You can remove the duvet cover and put it in the washing machine, no problem. (We got home from a vacation once and our house-sitter had, very nicely, washed our ENTIRE duvet with the cover still on - I guess she thought it was a comforter. Thin but warm. They are thin enough that I can put them into our washer and dryer. Best decision so far. In the winter we use a down comforter and it has a duvet cover on it, so I just wash the duvet regularly (with the sheets) and not the comforter. Is that gross? I figured it's ok because it's never exposed directly. The comforter is just decoration.
