I usually toss the cups after 24 hours or if I'm about to run the dishwasher. Same with water. DS backwashes badly with his straw cups and I know there's like junk floating around in there and I want to keep the cups clean. I keep it for longer than a lot of you seem to (we only put it out at mealtimes and then we put it away so it's not out for long) - I'll keep it for a couple of days, although I check it on a regular basis to make sure it's ok. I put a few oz in at a time and refill it if he asks for more. If he doesn't drink it all I put it back in the fridge until the next meal. If for some reason he doesn't drink it then I toss it. Now I put 8oz in a cup in the morning and if she finishes that I add 2oz at a time. It lives in the fridge for a day. So at most I dump 2oz each night. When I know in going to wash it I'm stingy with the refills. So now I feel like I waste a lot less than I did in the beginning. She's also started drinking a lot more recently (at 2.5). I always toss them back into the fridge if my kids don't drink the whole cup, but after a day or so, I get grossed out and toss out the milk. I feel like I (they?) must waste several cups a week. I only fill the cups like 4 oz at a time anyways. I guess they just aren't huge milk drinkers! Do you throw away a lot of cow's milk?
