We used to be really guilty of wasting food. That was in part because we would go shopping for like 1-2 weeks at a time and when we would buy a ton of stuff at once we wouldn't end up using it. It especially happened with produce going bad too quickly. Then we moved closer to a grocery store so we go to the store and only buy what we need. It's definitely helped us cut down a lot on our waste. We still need improvement, but I don't feel bad about where we're at with it.

I really, really hate wasting food. Especially ingredients like fresh fruits and vegetables... I feel less bad about throwing out leftovers. But we definitely still do it.

Unfortunately we're pretty bad about wasting food. My husband is definitely better than I am because he likes leftovers. Growing up we had a new meal every night and my dad ate the leftovers the next day for lunch so I never really had to experience them. To me, dinner needs to be something freshly cooked. I've gotten a little bit better but I still don't enjoy reheated meat...the texture is just off to me. We're also bad about opening a box of something and then getting tired of it before it's gone and it going bad. Definitely hope to work on this bad habit this year.

Yes, we waste food :( DD is only 9 months, so I'm just cooking for DH & I at the moment. It's hard to cook for 2! I just threw away 2 tupperware containers filled with leftovers.

Sadly, we do. We throw away a lot of leftovers as well as veggies that we don't end up eating. About once a month I throw away an uncooked package of meat or chicken that we buy but don't get a chance to cook. It is not intentional - we just run out of time during the week to cook.

My husband also hates leftovers and it's up to me. I cleaned out our fridge yesterday and threw away old fruit/veggies and 3 tubberwares of food. I hate it but I guess there isn't much I can do about it. I have tried adjusting portion sizes and freezing casseroles instead of making a full batch, this helps a lot.

You can freeze a lot of fruit, which is good if you make smoothies. I portion it into sandwich sized baggies or small containers depending on what I have, and just pull out a serving in the morning to whiz with yogurt...my son loves them too.

We do sometimes throw out fresh fruit we don't eat. Now I feel pressured to eat all of our fresh fruit so we don't throw it out! Probably a good thing overall.

I used to be more wasteful, but then I saw that scene in Castaway where Tom Hanks gets back from the island and looks around at all that wasted food left over from the banquet.

We try very hard not to waste food. I grocery shop once a week so my fresh fruits and veggies don't spoil before I get to use them. My husband takes leftovers to work for his lunch. But if I make something that neither of us care for then it usually gets wasted.

Before getting pregnant, I used to sooo good at not wasting any food! We just bought our first house and got married - we were anticipating for unexpected expenses.

But since I got pregnant, I've just been forgetful and lazy. I forget all about the leftovers and let husband handle it all and it always ends up in the back of the fridge! I have at least 3 things to throw out right now ;(

How we did it before was I'd make a bunch of food and automatically put them in lunchboxes and freeze them. DH can take them to work or I can have them another day. That way nothing is really "leftover" it's just premade food. I would also make dishes good for 2 days in a row (like roasted chicken with root veggies one day and the next day make chicken soup or stir-fry jerk chicken with rice the next day). Sometimes I'd even manage to resurrect a meal to last 3 days - all completely different but with the same main ingredient.

Nowerdays, I sporadically cook and when I do, I don't want to see the food again and don't want to eat it again, no matter what! DH makes his lunch after we eat and he never has enough containers to put the rest in the freezer. (Container washing is his duty.)

I try not to, but it happens sometimes. I really try to freeze fruit before it goes, like bananas and use them later in breads or muffins.

We also started buying a lot less, esp. fresh produce.

too funny! we were just watching that on netflix the other day. didn't get to finish it but it's crazy the billion pounds of food we waste on an annual basis. i am a big waster of food. i intend to cook things. and then, i don't cook them. and then they become rotten. and i have to chuck them. sigh. 1. i have to freeze more often. but not really sure about freezing veggies or anything other than meat. 2. i need to stick to my menu and cook them when i intend to cook them.

Guilty! Dh is better with leftovers than I am, but I do try to take it for lunch as much as I can...

I think our biggest problem is that between what our moms give us for food and what we buy/eat for ourselves... it's just too much food for a household of 2.... a lot of food sits in our fridge and eventually gets thrown away...

We try hard not to. We take smaller helpings and make sure to finish what's on our plate so then if we're still hungry we take another helping. Leftovers are usually the next days lunch. Most of our meals are made from scratch and I have to say we're both good cooks so luckily we both look forward to left overs.

DH and I try really hard to not waste food. So I try to have meals in mind when I buy my food and not just buy willy-nilly like we had before. Leftovers we try to eat too, but I'm not the most creative when it comes to turning one meal into something else!

Now my Mom... man, she could make something awesome out of nothing! We were quite poor growing up, so she had to use whatever was in the pantry for a meal and there usually wasn't much to choose from! She never wasted anything.

I watched a documentary about people who dumpster dive, not because they can't afford food but because they hate that food gets wasted.

While I think that's gross and never would do that, it made me think about how much food we waste. Hubby doesn't like leftovers (he's crazy, I love them!) so it's up to me to eat all of our leftovers. I try to make small portions, but it's hard for me to judge how much to make. Today I went through my fridge and threw out 3 tupperwares of food. I need to work on that!

Do you waste a lot of food, or are you good at eating everything you've got?
