we don't usually watch the news--we both tend to read it online anyway--but I've been actively changing the subject when dh and I are talking about the election in front of lo lately, just because we both get worked up and exasperated, and at 2.5 lo can sense that tension--even though we aren't arguing with each other, we agree! but we get so angry, and she can't tell yet that we aren't angry at each other or her. she doesn't need that negative energy to affect her

Yes- my daughter is almost 3 and will repeat anything she hears/ ask questions if she doesn't know what a word means. I definitely am not ready to talk to her about sexual assault or even hear that phrase come out of her mouth! I have been streaming my favorite radio show and catching up on the news during naptime and after bed.

More so when they were covering the recent terrorist attacks. When my mom visits, she turns on MSNBC non stop and I had to put my foot down when my daughter was clearly distressed watching explosions and shooting. I don't mind her seeing Jake Tapper and Wolf Blitzer talk about Donald Trump. But that's because she's only 21 months. If she was older, yes I'd be uncomfortable letting her listen to all the "grabbing p****" talk.

Not really be of the election but because of all the violence, mass shootings, police killings, etc. I used go think my kids were too young to catch on to what was going on, or didn't pay attention to it, but my daughter started asking things like "why would someone hurt a police officer." So I make an effort to turn it off when things turn dark.

Absolutely. My husband got his nose out of joint about it, but i want my daughter to maintain her innocense and that definitely means shielding her from the shitshow that is this election/Donald Trump.

Meh, my kid is so young, I plan to shelter her from TV and radio news for several more years. Not just election stuff, but more importantly media coverage of shootings and other forms of violence.

I read my news online these days.

We live overseas and internet is sometimes slow, so I will turn on CNN to stay up on the election. All this news on Billy Bush and Donald Trump has been playing non-stop though, and I could see my son peeking around the door to listen in. So I turned it off, and found another TV to watch the second presidential debate on. I'm glad I watched that one elsewhere too.

What a crazy world that you can't even watch the news in front of your kids anymore! Anyone else being more careful watching the news?
