I was thinking about this last night. I listen to NPR all the time, and we usually watch BBC World News and ABC News at night. Last night, though, there was a lot of violence in the reporting, and she was fixated on the TV. I ended up turning it off, because I don't want her exposed to that, even though she is too little to understand. I think we're going to get a small TV for the kitchen so that we can still have it on but without it being front and center in the living room.

I rarely watch the news. Let alone with DS in the room.

Wish we didn't at all. But SO likes the news (while I prefer NPR). So it's on sometimes

Absolutely not. There's no good way to explain to a two year old why a big strapping dude decided to push and rob a blind man, or why anyone would drop bombs and kill civilians.

@skibobrown: @yin: I like the idea of NPR! I really need to get a radio for my kitchen, which is where we spend the marjority of the morning before we leave the house. I feel like NPR isn't as doom and gloom as NBC, CBS, etc.

I never ever watch local news anymore--it is just ridiculous--"16 year old girl found murdered" followed by "the secret killer lurking in your pantry" followed by "10 weight loss tips from the experts!". Ick. no thank you. So LO is definitely never exposed (although sometimes the news comes on first depending on what channel was on last when we turn on the tv, and in the mornings it's usually the traffic report and he enjoys watching all the cars :silly: )

No way! He will repeat stuff we said an hour later when we didn't think he was listening to us. The news is full of awful stuff I don't want to hear out of his mouth!

My mom does and I HATE it. The news gave me a nightmare as a kid, and that was 30 years ago. It's way worse now!!!

I don't like to. I don't want to shield them from everything, but I kind of hate our local news anyways as far as what stories that choose to cover and the spin stuff normally gets. But I just don't think most news programs are presented in a way that is appropriate for kids.

Obviously it's different if they're too little to have a clue, I'm talking when they're old enough to pay attention to it.

I do, but neither of my girls really pays attention to it. I'm also not sure if the BBC is a bit more reserved in what they show or if I'm just too distracted in the morning to notice, but they hardly ever show images that make me stop and think that I don't want my 2 year old seeing that.

I don't really like to have all the doom and gloom of the news on in front of my 2 year old. We typically leave the TV off until she's asleep (or if it's on, it's Frozen alldayeveryday). I like to watch the news in the morning before work, though so I try to get a few minutes in before I go wake her up.

Maybe when she's a little older and we can discuss what we are seeing/hearing on the news, I'll feel better about watching it with her in the room?
