@oliviaoblivia: "I really want to limit her exposure to the kardashian's" hahaha

I use to have talk shows on as background noise but I don't anymore. DH watches football in front of them and sometimes I watch the news. Most of my shows are DVR'd/watched after they go to bed.

Well the TV is usually on, but when she's awake none of us pay attention to it we are usually playing on the floor with her. I don't think she ever notices that it is on or tries to watch it, she's much to busy for that! <3

We're TV people too, so it's on a lot in our house. She is rarely paying any attention to it and we stick to non "adult" shows but don't watch "kids" shows exactly. If we're hanging out at home on the weekend I will turn on a Disney movie from Netflix, but it's all really for background noise as she crawls all over the house and we play.
I would like to get better about this now before she starts noticing it but old habits die hard.

We have a computer connected to our tv so that we don't have to pay for cable (yes!) and I often play Pandora during the day. After a while the screen saver comes on, and I notice that LL tends to get distracted by it. Do you think this is the same as having the TV on? What about music without a picture (I try to turn the picture off when I notice he is distracted). What about talk radio (I listen to Dave Ramsey some too.) I have always wondered this. What is it about TV exactly that we are supposed to avoid?

We have been really good (surprisingly) about keeping the TV off when she is around. Football season is coming up, though so I'm not sure what we're going to do on rainy Sunday's when all Mom wants to do is watch football. :)

we try not to, which is pretty easy to do because LO is 7 months old and still naps a lot. when he gets older and stays up for longer periods of time, though, i'm not sure how we'll avoid it because we watch a lot of tv.

The TV is on most of the day, but I would say half the day on mute. The power button is broken on our remote, so as we're so lazy it doesn't get shut off. I only turn it to kids shows for sesame Street and sometimes dinosaur train. I watch the world news while I'm feeding him dinner, but I've been telling myself I have to stop because of the awful things on it.

We do have it on quite a bit (both news and adult shows), we are TV people, but he is facing away, and has no interest in it. I know it's probably frowned upon but I just got in the habit of having it on all the time for background noise when I was on bed rest for 3 months! We'll probably try to scale back soon, as he becomes more aware of it.

I was cracking up today- I turn off the tv after an afternoon show we watched during snack time after his nap.... C turns the tv back on a few minutes later. Amazing the things they pick up! I ended up unplugging the cable box, that did the trick for now....

I only get TV when I am nursing at night (thank God for smart phones) or we are eating dinner. So, yeah. We also don't plan on restricting TV until a certain age. We don't watch it all day though either so it's not that bad.

If we're home, there's usually a tv on. We're just tv people. That said, he usually only watches tv if we're sitting with him and its a Disney channel program like Good Luck Charlie. Adult shows are dvr'd in our bedroom, so he never sees those. I don't stress about it. As long as we're playing outside a lot and doing other activities more often that watching tv, we don't worry about it.

not really, i did when he was a newborn a lot, but now he naps in his room and when he is awake, there is no point to having the TV because i can't really watch it if i am playing with him or trying to do chores while wearing him. And if he plays by himself, i use that time to do other stuff that i can't do while wearing him. If i get so lucky to sit down and have lunch while he plays by himself, then i will put on my soap opera for 10 minutes to watch while i eat, but that is rare.

I do take him to the movies and he will watch part of it and sleep for part of it, so i am not against some irregular exposure, it's just not part of routine at home.

I have it on a lot for background noise. I feel less lonely with it on. During the day it's usually kid shows or the Today show once in a great while. Late afternoon (3-5) it's shows like Friends or Ellen. We never watch things like Breaking Bad, for example, in front of her. The only show she ever gives an interest in is baby einstein anyway, so I'm not worried about her watching too much.

We try not to. We used to have it on when she was a baby, but we tried to reel that in around 9/10 months when she was starting to look at the screen. It means we had to change our lifestyle dramatically because we had the TV on a lot!

Now for background noise we play one of our cable station's music channels, mostly jazz, toddler tunes, and the 90s station. But I'll admit that LO has seen the occasional episode of Jeopardy or House Hunters.

She does get to watch segments of Caillou and Angelina Ballerina a few times a week.
