Awesome!! The stammering probably means that you caught him red handed. I seriously doubt he will do it again anytime soon, but he might start it up again in time so be prepared to have a similar conversation. Good luck!

@Modern Daisy: Thanks! I followed your suggestion and he stammered something and didn't really answer me. I wonder if it will continue today!

Yes, totally. It usually happens when I'm out on vacation, my 'backup' people who are supposed to do my work while I'm out tell clients just to wait until I get back. The problem normally sorts itself out since if it's really an emergency a client will never accept that response and will call our managers until it's taken care of.

It sounds like since you ARE the managers there might not be anyone for the clients to complain to, so you should talk to your coworker about it directly. If the things he's putting off for you are his responsibility, then it's worth pointing out. I'd take him aside with the most recent offense and say "Hey Bob, did this really need to wait for me to do today? Why weren't you able to do it last night?" Don't accuse him of anything, but continue to do the same exact thing with every future offense and eventually he will stop.

Do you guys do the same job? If so, I would definitely try to talk to him in person. If it doesn't solve it, at least it lets him know that you see what he's doing. (or not doing, in this case).

There's a few people around here that do that and it drives. me. nuts!!!

I work from 6-3 and another manager works from 9-6. If any issues come up after 3...he tells the staff to email me so I can follow up the next day! W T F. Bad service for the clients, especially when he can deal with it right away!

I really want to address this today. Do you think I should send him an email or just speak in person?
