Yes I am already thinking about this! I was babysitting my 1 year old Goddaughter the other day, and realized our house is not mobile baby ready. She was all over the place with stuff that could hurt her!

Honestly apart from the knives and cleaning products... the house is pretty not child proofed.

@mediagirl: We have a big (probably 4 foot tall by 1.5 feet wide) mirror that's just standing up against the wall in our guest bedroom, and LO likes to sit in front of it and will sometimes touch his reflection, but he's never tried to knock it over or pull on it, and I feel like if he was going to start trying we'd notice in time to stop it from falling on him.

@PBandBaseball: Yikes, that is what worries me. We have decided to get some of those L-brackets to secure bookshelves to the walls. They're the things I worry about most.

@Lozza: that makes sense. I just started thinking about the mirror in our closet today and that I love it but there's no way to secure it to the wall. Then I started imagining our LO grabbing it and it cutting her or injuring her worse than that. I need to stop thinking.

@mrsjyw: this too. 2 dogs and a baby. Secure gates will definitely be the first stop!

Will your LO be in daycare or home during the day?
Ours is a year old and in daycare all week (and we're often out and about on weekends), and we tend to try to get chores done when he isn't awake/around, so honestly there is very little time when LO is home and we aren't at least semi-interacting with him. As a result, while we've done some baby-proofing (gates around stairs, foam on the corners of the living room table) we haven't done all that much, and haven't done nearly as much as I think we'd need if he was going to be spending more time in our house.

Yep! We don't have much, but between the two dogs... and then the baby... we're trying to figure out the balance between dog/baby proofing.

I read an article about children pulling furniture over when they start pulling themselves up, so I think I'm most concerned about fastening our furniture to the walls. Baby gates will be a big help with the stairs.

We live pretty simply so childproofing wasn't too difficult.

LO is 8.5 months and we *just* started this weekend by protecting the corners of our TV stand. That's it for now. She likes to crawl towards the fireplace but I just scoop her up and take her somewhere else. We haven't done our stairs yet but will very soon.

We didn't have to worry too much. Our main danger zone are is stairs so we did that. And she seemed pretty interested in the outlets so we did those in the play room and family room where she spends the most time.

As @artbee says, you still have a lot of time. Plus, it can buy you more time just to close all the doors to rooms as it takes them a while to figure out to open up doors as well!

@mediagirl: maybe it will be less overwhelming if you do a little at a time. You have many months before your lo will be crawling around. Mine is 8 1/2 months and not crawling, just some major scootching.

Our house is dog proofed for a dog who will eat things if left out when we leave. We still have some stuff to do, but not an overwhelming amount.

Do you spend a lot of time upstairs?

One of the many things I have been thinking about is child -proofing the house. Downstairs is pretty good, minimal. Upstairs is a different story. It's where the majority of our stuff is. Wall mirrors not attached to the wall, bookshelves, crafting items, etc. I'm sure we'll figure it out when the time comes but, does anyone else look around their house and just wonder how they'll child-proof it all?
